🚮 An Update on Bin Changes 🚮
Braintree District Council has issued the below service update regarding the recent changes made to bins in the region.
Beginning this Autumn, households in need of extra capacity will be able to apply for additional recycling bins, Braintree District Council will share more information as this scheme nears its launch.
We will also be sure to post updates here detailing how to apply and the eligibility criteria as soon as that information becomes available.

Service Update: Recycling and Waste Collection Changes ♻️💚
Thank you to everyone who has continued to engage with our new recycling and waste service since its introduction in June.
As part of the service design, we always recognised that some households may need additional recycling capacity. Provision for this has been included from the outset within our Household Waste and Recycling Collections Policy, which was developed following feedback from our public consultation.
Since the service launched, we've been carefully monitoring collection data alongside the feedback, comments and questions we've received from residents. This information is helping us understand what's working well, identify any areas for improvement, and shape how the recycling additional capacity service will operate.
📅 From this autumn, households that need extra recycling capacity will be able to apply for additional bins or boxes, subject to eligibility criteria. We are using both resident feedback and service data to help design this process, and we'll share more details closer to launch, including how to apply and who will be eligible.
We're pleased to share some early and positive tonnage results from the service:
⬆️ Paper and card (red bin) and mixed recycling (blue bin) increased in total by around 127%
⬆️ Food recycling increased by around 37%
⬆️ Garden waste increased by around 29%
⬇️ General waste (grey bin) decreased by around 19%
These early figures show encouraging progress, with more recyclable material being diverted from general waste. Alongside the feedback we're receiving from residents, this data is helping us build a robust evidence base to design the additional capacity service and determine the fairest and most effective eligibility criteria.
