COVEYbefriending

COVEYbefriending Befriending, Mentoring and Family Support for young people and their families across Lanarkshire.

We are a charity providing a volunteering opportunity for people to make a real difference in the life of a young person needing support. This takes the form of one to one outings, building up a relationship and giving the young person a positive adult role model in the life.

It’s day!

At COVEY, we are incredibly lucky to have a dedicated group of Young Ambassador Volunteers.

These are young people who were previously supported by COVEY and have chosen to come back and share their inspiring experiences to help others.

They have shown us that while young people might not remember every single activity with COVEY, they will certainly go on to remember the people who kept showing up for them when they needed it most.

That’s the true, lasting power of volunteering 💛

Right now, our volunteers are out there, making these lasting memories with children, young people and families across Lanarkshire. The work they are doing matters so much and we are so grateful to them for their time and kindness.

Happy !

“They choose us.” (Anya - young participant)

Today is the first day of Volunteers’ Week! We’re highlighting the incredible volunteers who dedicate their time to the children, young people and families we support at COVEY.

To our volunteers, we want to say thank you for continuing to show up without judgement, and for all the moments you simply choose kindness.

Every time you offer someone the space to be heard, every activity you plan around their interests, every smile exchanged at pick-up and drop-off, every time you just keep showing up and keep going - it really matters.

These are the moments that quietly build to make a lasting difference in someone’s life. Our volunteers are out there doing this every single day.

Thank you so much 💛

A big thank you to Kim from South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture for delivering a fantastic wellbeing session with our team today.

We explored drawing techniques as part of our quarterly team wellbeing programme, and it was a great opportunity to relax and learn something new! 😀

Cultural Activities in South Lanarkshire

COVEY works in partnership with DYW Glasgow on their Glasgow Regional Opportunities for Work (GROW) programme.

These sessions are designed to give young people meaningful connections with a variety of employers, helping them understand career paths and job opportunities in different sectors.

We recently supported an S3 group from Kirkintilloch High in East Dunbartonshire, where they learned about the Conservation Sector with RSPB Scotland

It was wonderful to play such an important part in making this opportunity possible, while seeing COVEY’s support reach new communities beyond Lanarkshire.

One of the young participants of the programme shared her experience, and why she thinks these opportunities are so important for young people.

We’re delighted to share that COVEY’s family support service has received 3 years of Fairer Life Chances funding from The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland!

We want to say a huge thank you to The National Lottery for supporting our work with families across Lanarkshire.

This funding will help us continue providing tailored support for children, young people, parents and carers through one-to-one and peer support, financial wellbeing guidance, family activities, and opportunities to connect and thrive together.

Through a relationship-based approach, this project will support around 50 families over the next 3 years, helping build confidence, resilience, and opportunities for families to achieve their goals. We’re also excited to involve 12 volunteers in supporting this work.

National Lottery players raise over £32 million each week for good causes across the UK, helping bring life-changing projects to communities.

Thank you to everyone who plays The National Lottery and makes funding like this possible 💙

At COVEY, we work in partnership with Intandem to deliver their mentoring programme for children and young people experiencing the care system, or at risk of care, in South Lanarkshire.

It was a pleasure to take part in their Portfolio Day in Perth this week!

The event brought together Coordinators and Managers from 12 partner organisations delivering mentoring support across 20 local authorities!

It was a great opportunity to connect, reflect and exchange learning and best practice from across the network.

Thank you to everyone involved for a brilliant day ⭐️

At COVEY, we love to see young people finding and developing their passions. Just like one of our young participants who has discovered a love for fishing!

He’s been building on his skills, growing in confidence and trying out new locations - with a recent visit to Strathclyde Park proving a great success!

At COVEY, we offer tailored support based on each young person’s individual needs and interests.

By encouraging activities they truly enjoy and helping them explore new experiences, we support young people to build confidence, develop skills and achieve personal goals at their own pace 💛
