A romantic house and gallery set in beautiful gardens beside the River Test, owned by the National Trust. You can:

Ancient trees, bubbling brooks and rolling lawns frame this lovely old house. Crafted from a medieval priory, it is full of surprises, with art that intrigues and delights. Discover carpets of spring bulbs, glorious summer roses, rich autumn colours and a colourful winter garden

Explore the rooms of an intriguing house, including a drawing room by Whistler designed to trick the eye and a thirteen

Come back throughout the year to see different exhibitions in the gallery and the latest installations by our artists in residence as well as the house collection of early twentieth-century art

Take in our beautiful estate on foot or by bike. Look out for seasonal flowers and calm tranquility in woodlands beside the River Test. Come and visit us: We are closer than you think to places such as Romsey, Southampton, Winchester, Andover, Stockbridge and Salisbury. Use the postcode SO51 0LP to find us or look out for the brown tourist road signs around the Romsey area.

On Wednesday 24 & Thursday 25 June, Mottisfont house and art gallery will be closed. Instead, we invite you to bring your picnic or select an ice cream or iced coffee from our cafes and urge you to take a break from the shimmering heat with a saunter by the river in the shade.

Catering remains unaltered in the Old Kitchen Café, however, a reduced selection of items will be available from the Coach House Café. The Kitchen Garden kiosk will be closed. Our cafes will close at 2pm.

The gardens will close at 2pm (last entry 1.30pm)

Gift shop and plant centre open until 2pm.

Friday 26 June: open as usual.

This Sunday, 21 June at 19.15 catch Mottisfont on BBC 1 Countryfile as the team celebrate 'Hampshire's Secret Wild Side'.

Away from Hampshire's famous ports and bustling harbours lies a wild world of woodland, heathland and chalk streams. Matt Baker and Charlotte Smith meet the people working to find, protect and celebrate the county's lesser-spotted wildlife.

On Thursdays until September, join us on the River Test and discover the challenges chalk streams face. Learn about the essential and careful work of the Countryside team to restore these declining rivers and protect them for the future.

Pre-book at Visitor Reception on the day of the walk.
