Music for My Mind

Music for My Mind A UK-based charity working to improve the lives of families affected by dementia through music. We all have a soundtrack to our lives.

For many years it has been known that familiar music has a very positive effect on people. It can make us join in by singing along, tapping our feet or moving our hands, smiling or even dancing. Music allows us to go back in time and remember personal memories from years ago. Our aim is to help people living with dementia identify what their favourite music is. Technology developments have made this possible with the use of emotion monitors and artificial intelligence software.

🎙️ Podcast news! Back in December, our trustee Professor Nick Black joined the Ministry of Health Tech podcast to talk about our free Playlist Maker 🎼✨

What makes it special? It’s designed for people living with memory loss and dementia - even if they can’t tell you the songs from their youth that spark memories, the Playlist Maker uses clever automation to help uncover and curate them. That’s what makes it unique, simple, and accessible to everyone.

Tune in between 21–27 minutes of the episode to catch Nick’s insights on how music can reconnect people with their past and bring joy into the present.

🎼Bringing music and AI to the healthcare innovation stage🔬

In December, our team had the chance to be part of Accelerate Together - an event all about how technology and AI can improve healthcare.

We joined our friends at Cambridge Consultants to show something really special: how AI can help us take the personalisation of playlists for people living with dementia to the next level - increasing the chances of improving well-being and helping more families connect through favourite music.

The day was full of inspiring talks, workshops, and even a robot showing off some magic tricks! But for us, the best part was meeting new people, sharing our vision, and seeing how our work fits into the bigger picture of using innovation to improve lives.

We’re excited to keep building on these ideas and partnerships, so more families can experience the power of music to bring back memories and connection.

✨ Our brand new MFMM film is here ✨

This short film shows the incredible impact of personalised playlists for people living with dementia - bringing joy, connection, and treasured memories back to life. Everyone you see with headphones on is living with dementia or memory loss, listening to music from their youth, automatically curated by our free Playlist Maker.

Our research proves that music can:

- Improve mood

- Reduce depression and anxiety

- Ease neuropsychiatric symptoms

- Help loved ones remember the people and moments dementia tries to take away

We are deeply grateful to the families in our care home projects who allowed us to capture and share these special moments. Our thanks also to our partners Quantum Care - without whose support we would not have been able to capture the wonderful moments with their residents in this film.

👉 Please watch the film to the end, and if you have a loved one living with dementia who loves music, share a little about them in the comments - we’d love to hear their story.

🎶 Music for my Mind at the House of Lords 🎶

Last week we gathered at the House of Lords to celebrate and share the incredible power of personalised music playlists for people living with memory loss and dementia.

It was an evening filled with inspiration and evidence:
✨ We previewed results from our feasibility study in care homes, showing that personalised playlists over 12 weeks significantly improve quality of life and reduce neuropsychiatric symptoms.
✨ We heard an emotional speech from Coni Anang, Care Home Manager at Quantum Care Ltd, whose words about the impact of music on families in her care home left few dry eyes in the room.
✨ Ben Wicks from Cambridge Consultants highlighted the urgent need for partner support to sustain the momentum behind the technological and AI advancements that Music for my Mind achieved in 2025.

We’re also thrilled to welcome our new patrons:
🎤 Wilson - Kaiser Chiefs frontman and The Voice UK judge
🌟 Gareth Locke‑Locke - TV personality and advocate

We are honoured they’ve accepted our invitation to be patrons of Music for my Mind, to help us spread the word about the power of personalised playlists as we move into 2026.

As a small charity, our ambition is big: to bring the benefits of personalised music to the million people living with dementia in the UK - and beyond.

Tonight marks a very special chapter in Music for my Mind’s journey.

Our team and trustees are honoured to be heading to the House of Lords for a celebratory evening kindly hosted by The Rt Hon. Lord Kennedy of Southwark PC, alongside our valued partners Cambridge Consultants and Quantum Care Ltd.

The event will shine a spotlight on the power of music for people living with memory loss and dementia - a cause at the heart of everything we do. It’s an opportunity to share the progress we’ve made in delivering personalised music playlists to families affected by dementia, and to look ahead to the future of the music and dementia sector.

At Music for my Mind, our mission is simple yet profound: to improve quality of life through personalised music playlists. This evening, we celebrate how far we’ve come - and are excited to explore how collaboration and innovation can continue to transform lives through music.
