Last week Classes 2 and 3 were fortunate to take part in a live assembly, Breaking Barriers: Celebrating Disability Sport. Pupils were inspired by the remarkable story of Stef Reid, a Paralympic long jumper, broadcaster and disability advocate. Stef spoke about the life-changing trauma she experienced as a child when she lost her right leg in a boating accident. Rather than allowing this challenge to define her, she showed incredible resilience and determination, adapting to life with a prosthetic limb and eventually becoming one of the world's leading Paralympic athletes.

Stef went on to represent Great Britain at the Paralympic Games, winning a silver medal in the long jump and becoming a powerful role model for perseverance, courage and self-belief. She encouraged pupils to view obstacles as opportunities for growth and to never let setbacks stop them from pursuing their dreams. Even after retiring from competitive athletics, Stef continued to embrace new challenges, taking up ice skating and appearing on Dancing on Ice. Her inspiring message reminded us all that with determination, a positive mindset and hard work, barriers can be overcome and goals can be achieved.L

πŸ‚ Harvest Festival Thanks πŸ‚

A huge thank you to all the parents, carers, family members and friends who joined us at St James's Church, Birstwith for our Harvest Festival service this morning.

It was wonderful to come together as a school community to celebrate the harvest season and reflect on the importance of gratitude, kindness and helping others.

We would also like to say a special thank you for your incredibly generous donations. The amazing collection of food and essential items will be donated to Harrogate Foodbank, where they will help support local individuals and families in need.

Your kindness and generosity truly make a difference. Thank you for helping us demonstrate our school values in action and for supporting those within our wider community. ❀️🍎🌾

Talking to a pupil about their wellbeing can feel daunting, particularly when you are unsure what to say or worried about hearing something concerning.

Our latest guide reminds educators that they do not need to be specialists to provide meaningful support.

The guide explores:
β€’ Building warm, trusting relationships
β€’ Choosing a safe and appropriate place to talk
β€’ Using side-by-side conversations to reduce pressure
β€’ Staying calm when a pupil shares a concern
β€’ Being clear and honest about confidentiality
β€’ Knowing when to involve safeguarding colleagues or seek support yourself

It also includes practical conversation starters to help staff open discussions gently and give pupils space to talk when they are ready.

🌟 EYFS Maths Fun! 🌟

The children in EYFS have been learning how to match groups of objects in Maths this week. It has been fantastic to see them engaging so enthusiastically in the outdoor area, exploring and learning through play.

We have also been really impressed with their great use of maths language as they develop their understanding and confidence.

Well done, EYFS! πŸ‘πŸ”’πŸ˜Š

Looksmaxxing is an online trend focused on improving physical appearance, particularly among boys and young men.

While some content centres on grooming, skincare, diet and exercise, other parts of the trend can promote questionable advice, extreme practices and unrealistic expectations.

Our latest guide explores key concerns, including:
β€’ Pressure around male appearance and body image
β€’ Misleading or potentially dangerous advice
β€’ Obsessive behaviours and declining self-worth
β€’ Mental health concerns
β€’ Exposure to increasingly extreme online communities

It also shares practical advice for parents and educators on recognising looksmaxxing terminology, noticing changes in behaviour and starting supportive conversations about appearance, influencers and online expectations.

Read the guide here: https://vist.ly/5ke3u

Our latest guide supports parents, carers and educators in understanding the trend and recognising when appearance-focused content may be becoming harmful.

The guide explores:
β€’ The targeting of male insecurities and body image concerns
β€’ Misleading advice and extreme appearance-focused practices
β€’ Links to obsessive behaviours and mental health difficulties
β€’ How increasingly extreme online communities can influence young people
β€’ Warning signs, terminology and changes in behaviour to look out for

With clear, practical advice, the resource helps adults open supportive conversations about appearance, influencers and unrealistic expectations.

πŸŽ¨πŸ‚ Nature-Inspired Art in Class 2 πŸ‚πŸŽ¨

This week, Class 2 have been finding inspiration in nature during their art lessons.

The children explored different ways of creating shapes using natural materials found in the great outdoors. They then became nature collectors themselves, gathering items such as pinecones, leaves, stones and sticks from around the school grounds.

Using their collections, the children created their own beautiful and imaginative designs, demonstrating creativity, teamwork and a real appreciation for the natural world.

Well done, Class 2! 🌿🍁✨
