Today in Maths, students were learning to 'Think like an examiner' by applying what they'd learnt about mark schemes to student work. Year 11 were able to confidently mark their own work following this! Let's see where this takes them!

In Year 10 English lesson. students joined the world of journalism as Researchers, Investigators, Reporters and Recorders worked together to uncover the underbelly of Victorian Britain, and how that may have influenced Dickens writing of A Christmas Carol.

We were pleased to welcome Yorkshire Water Education into our school today to deliver their "Hey Girls" project.

This important programme tackles period poverty and period stigma across Yorkshire, while promoting period dignity, education, wellbeing and sustainability.

Our students took part in an informative session about accessing sustainable and reusable period products, period health and wellbeing, and the importance of disposing of period products responsibly. They also learned about the impact that single-use period products can have on our sewer network when they are flushed down the toilet.

Here are some of the facts shared from the session and the Yorkshire Water website:
🔹 49% of young people in the UK have missed a whole day of school because of their period.
🔹 22% have had to improvise with the products they use.
🔹 1 in 10 people in the UK experience period poverty.
🔹 Many students avoid PE because of period anxiety.
🔹 The Lionesses helped challenge period stigma, including the introduction of dark shorts for their matches.
🔹 More than 220 million non-sustainable period products are flushed away each year, taking a long time to break down.

Those who came to our Open Evening will have seen Mrs Hastings’ infectious energy and enthusiasm for her subject. She has been a teacher at Harrogate High School for over 20 years and absolutely loves it! Her passion for teaching and for her subject is clear to everyone who meets her.

Her students are currently working on Romeo and Juliet for the next school performance and the school production in February will be the Wizard of Oz, so no doubt she will be wearing in the ruby slippers already!
