Do we have your correct email address?
If you didn’t receive our newsletters at the end of February and April, we likely don’t have your email address.
We try to use email instead of costly postal mail but we need your help. If you, your gardening partner, neighbours, or fellow allotment holders haven’t provided an email address yet, please contact us at: [email protected] with your name and plot address, and we’ll update your details. Just add ‘updated email address’ to the subject line.
If you don’t have access to email, please let us have a mobile phone number. Being able to share information quickly is important, and we use both email and text messages for urgent updates.
Don’t forget to check your junk or spam inbox—emails from new contacts can often end up there.

🌿 Join our Hartlepool Balsam Bash!

We’re teaming up with Hartlepool Borough Council for a community Himalayan balsam pull at Bishop Cuthbert on Thursday 25 June as part of INNS Week.

No experience? No problem! We’ll provide all the training you need, just bring a can-do attitude and clothes you don’t mind getting a bit muddy.

📍Location: Bishop Cuthbert, Hartlepool

⏰Time: Drop in for the whole session or even just an hour, every bit helps!

Himalayan balsam is an invasive plant that crowds out native wildlife and weakens riverbanks. By pulling it before it seeds, we can make a real difference for local rivers and wildlife 💪

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or trying conservation for the first time, everyone is welcome. Bring friends, family, and plenty of enthusiasm!

Let’s work together to protect Hartlepool’s green spaces and waterways. 💚

Our seed libraries are running low and need your support!
If you have any spare, leftover, or harvested seeds, please consider donating them at one of our hubs. Every contribution helps keep the seed library growing for everyone 💚
You’re also welcome to take seeds home to plant and enjoy!
📦 How to donate:

Bring seeds in a small envelope, bag, or one of our seed wallets
Add a brief description (plant name, variety, and any growing notes if you can)

Allotment Rent Reminder – Final Payment Day
If you have not yet paid your 2026/27 allotment rent and have received a warning for breach of tenancy, please be advised that today is the final day to make your payment before further action is taken.
Please refer to your invoice for details of how to pay.
Be aware that any Notices to Quit issued for non-payment will not be withdrawn, so it is important not to delay your payment.
If you have any queries or need to arrange a payment plan, please contact us as soon as possible, as the deadline for setting up payment plans is approaching.

Remember - email is the preferred method of contact, if you have given us an email address that is where you will find contact from us.

Here is Issue No.2 of 2026 of our Hartlepool Allotments Newsletter. This issue includes articles regarding the Food & Growing Celebration Event, parking in lanes, reminder about fires and 2026 animal/hazard registrations, annual and walkabout inspections, Nicholson Field and Thornhill litter picks, a small piece about our recent Trailblazer, fly tipping on sites, designing a child's plot, seasonal jobs, invoices and direct debit payments.

If you have not yet paid your allotment rent or set up a direct debit to pay in instalments, please take action before the deadline to avoid receiving a warning on your tenancy.

🌿 Litter Pick at Thornhill 🌿
The Allotment team, joined by a couple of tenants and an Officer from Pride in Place spent a few of hours litter picking this morning at Thornhill, working down the lanes and along the wide track between the allotments and the playing fields.
The area is looking much tidier now, with over 20 bags of rubbish removed from this area which is a well used route. 🌱☘️

Hedgehogs need your help!
Hedgehogs can roam over a mile each night! To find food, water and other hedgehogs, they need to move freely through our gardens and allotment plots.
Take a look around your plot and consider joining the hedgehog highway by creating a small gap or hole between fences or boundaries so they can pass through safely.
As well as being lovely visitors, hedgehogs help keep slug numbers down which is a natural pest control bonus!

Hedgehogs travel between one and two kilometres a night, so linking your garden to its neighbours is the most important thing you can do to help them.

If you keep birds on your allotment it is important to make sure you are up to date with the latest DEFRA guidance around avian flu.

If you are a birdkeeper do not ignore the guidance, register your flock and keep up to date on the latest restrictions.
