Multi-Station Training Exercise at Lancashire Fire and Rescue Training Centre 🚒

Haslingden Fire Station joined crews from Rawtenstall Fire Station and Bacup Fire Station for a multi-station training exercise at Lancashire Fire and Rescue Training Centre in Chorley.

The exercise involved three vehicles and three different casualty extrication scenarios, allowing crews to practise a range of techniques in a controlled environment.

🚗 Vehicle 1 – Full Side Removal
Crews carried out a full side removal, removing the doors and creating sufficient space to safely extricate the casualty from the vehicle.

🚙 Vehicle 2 – Full Roof Removal
A full roof removal was carried out, allowing crews to access and safely remove the casualty through the rear of the vehicle using a long board.

🚘 Vehicle 3 – Vehicle on its Roof
With the vehicle positioned on its roof, crews carried out a full side removal on both sides before creating a roof flap to provide additional space for casualty extrication.

Crews also used Paratech struts to stabilise the vehicle, demonstrating the importance of effective stabilisation before and during casualty removal.

Exercises like this provide valuable opportunities for crews from different stations to work together, practise technical rescue skills and develop communication, teamwork and decision-making in challenging situations.

Haslingden Fire Station – Training Night 🚒

Our crew at Haslingden have been putting their skills into practice, carrying out a training drill involving the 10.5m ladder being deployed below ground level.

The drill focused on the correct use of the rope pack, including selecting and tying the appropriate knots to secure the ladder and allow it to be safely lowered below ground level for firefighter access.

The crew then practised the techniques required to recover the ladder back to ground level, reinforcing the importance of good communication, teamwork and safe working practices.

Regular training like this ensures crews remain confident and competent in using specialist equipment and carrying out these techniques safely when faced with challenging incidents.

🚒 Help us prevent wildfires.

The current warm and dry conditions mean the risk of wildfires across Lancashire is extremely high.

If you’re heading out to enjoy our countryside, please take extra care:
🚭 Never discard ci******es or smoking materials on the ground or from vehicle windows.
🔥 Never use disposable BBQs or light open fires on moorland, heathland, or areas of dry vegetation.
🗑️ Take your litter home – especially glass bottles, which can increase the risk of fire.
📞 If you discover a fire, move to a safe location and call 999 immediately.

Wildfires can spread rapidly, causing significant damage to our countryside, wildlife, and property, while putting lives at risk.

Please enjoy the outdoors responsibly and help us protect Lancashire’s beautiful countryside. Every small action makes a big difference.

Lancashire is set to see yet another heat wave with temperature still to increase.
Our staff have been carrying out Swift Water Rescues drills in best preparedness for what may occur.

With temperatures rising, many people will be spending more time outdoors and visiting Lancashire’s rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs and other open water sites. While these places can look inviting on a hot day, not all open water is safe.

Between May and August, almost half of all accidental drownings in the UK occur and the risk increases when temperatures rise.
When the average maximum temperature reaches 25°C or above:
• The risk of accidental drowning is five times higher than on cooler days.
• More people enter the water, with over half of those who drowned having been swimming.
If you’re heading near water this summer:
• Choose supervised swimming areas where possible.
• Never enter the water to help someone else, call 999 and encourage them to Float to Live.
• Learn the Float to Live technique: lie on your back, keep your head back with your ears submerged, relax, spread your arms and legs, and control your breathing.

Our teams are out across Lancashire speaking with young people and sharing vital water safety advice to help everyone stay safe this summer.
