🎉 Last month Hassocks Parish Council agreed on the latest recipients of our community grants scheme, with six charities and local community groups sharing £3,300.
🌟 The latest grants will support a wide range of local work, from the Hassocks community veg patch and advice services to indoor curling, seaside trips for people living with dementia and their carers, community cycling and walking events, and the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex.
🤝 Our Community Grants scheme supports local organisations providing services of direct benefit to residents, especially projects that bring people together and strengthen community life.
💷 Since February 2022, we have awarded 50 community grants, totalling £26,629, to 31 different organisations.

❤️ October is National Cholesterol Month, a chance to learn more about cholesterol and the part it plays in our heart health.
❤️‍🩹 Small, achievable changes can add up. Eating well and moving more can help us look after our cholesterol and our hearts.
👟 Hassocks has plenty of lovely places to be active, from Adastra Park and our other green spaces to local footpaths, cycle routes and the surrounding countryside.

📅 Our local Mid Sussex District and West Sussex County councillors are holding their monthly joint surgery for residents next Thursday, 22 October.
⏰ Drop in between 11am and 12 noon. The surgery takes place on the fourth Thursday of each month.
📍 Join them here at the Parish Centre in Adastra Park, Hassocks BN6 8QH.
💬 This is an opportunity to speak directly with your councillors about local issues and services handled by the district and county councils.
👋 You are also welcome to visit the Parish Centre and find out more about Hassocks Parish Council and local community groups.
🤝 Hassocks District Councillors Kristian Berggreen, Sue Hatton and Chris Hobbs will be there, alongside the County Councillor for Hassocks & Burgess Hill South, Erika Woodhurst-Trueman.

ℹ️ Hassocks Community Food Bank works through a voucher system, providing enough food for three days for families and individuals in crisis.
📍 E-vouchers are available from Hassocks Parish Centre in Adastra Park. Please check our website for opening times, or contact [email protected] or 01273 842714.
🤝 Carers of children at Hassocks Infant School can contact the school office. Older residents can also visit Age Concern Hassocks on Dale Avenue for support.

📣 Mid Sussex District Council is supporting Hate Crime Awareness Week (10–17 October), an opportunity to raise awareness of hate crime and its impact on individuals and communities.
💚 As a Parish Council, we want Hassocks to remain a safe, welcoming and wonderful place to live, work, visit and play, whatever your background.
🤝 Thankfully, most residents in Hassocks will never experience a hate crime or hate incident. However, we can all help to keep our village welcoming by learning about hate crime, understanding its impact on our communities and looking out for one another.
🚓 Hassocks Parish Council regularly discusses local crime statistics and updates from Mid Sussex Police. Where appropriate, we seek and share further information and signpost residents to relevant services.
🚨 If you have experienced or witnessed a suspected hate crime, report it to Sussex Police online or call 101. In an emergency, always call 999.

🌿 Take the nearest exit into nature.
💡 Research suggests that spending at least two hours a week in nature is associated with better health and wellbeing. That works out at around 17 minutes a day - a small, achievable habit that can add up to a big difference.
📍 From Adastra Park, Talbot Field and Parklands Copse to our local footpaths and access to the South Downs National Park, Hassocks has plenty of places to enjoy some greentime.

📋 The agenda for tomorrow’s Hassocks Parish Council meeting is now available on our website.
📝 The Council will consider minutes from recent Planning, Grounds & Environment, and Policy, Resources & Communications Committee meetings. Councillors will also consider committee-recommended updates to policies on safeguarding, equality and diversity, artificial intelligence, and financial regulations.
🤝 Councillors will receive reports from Sussex Police, West Sussex County Council and Mid Sussex District Council, along with updates on rail and public transport, community initiatives, and outside bodies where the Council is represented.
📢 The Clerk and Chair of the Council will share updates on projects including the management of precept funds, refurbishment of public toilets, a potential new cycle route from Pyecombe to Hassocks, and new highway signs.
🗣️ The Council will also discuss specialist planning advice and earmarked reserves, and appoint a Council representative to the Hassocks Community Organisation.
💡 Full Council meetings bring together reports from other committees and decisions that need to be made by all councillors. They also often include updates from local county and district councillors and outside bodies where the Council is represented.
