👣 Do you use the dropped kerb crossing outside Sussex Grocers?
🚫 One of the proposals in our Keymer Road traffic consultation is to add a no loading/no stopping sign to help keep this crossing clear.
♿ This crossing is particularly important for older and disabled residents, wheelchair users and people with pushchairs, as well as anyone visiting nearby shops.
➡️ Please take part in the consultation by Monday 21 September: https://www.hassocks-pc.gov.uk/keymer-road-parking/ The final decision will be made by West Sussex Highways, based on our proposal and feedback.
📝 We want to know whether you think this would improve access, and whether there are any concerns or alternatives we should consider.

🎗️ Have you spotted the gold bows around Hassocks yet?
💛Hassocks Goes Gold has become an important part of village life each September, raising awareness of childhood cancer while bringing residents, families, businesses and local groups together.
📍 Hassocks Parish Council is pleased to be sponsoring bow #49 outside the Parish Centre this year. If you are following the Giant Gold Bows Trail, do look out for it as you explore the village.
🌳 There are quite a few gold bows around Adastra Park and the memorial garden.

📅 Hassocks Parish Council meets next week on Tuesday 8 September at 7.30pm.
📋 The agenda will be published on our website three working days before the meeting, so please check online for the latest details.
💬 Full Council meetings consider reports from our committees and decisions that need to be made by all councillors. They also often include updates from local County and District Councillors and outside bodies where the Council is represented.
👋 Residents are always welcome to come along, see your Parish Council at work and ask councillors questions about any non-confidential items on the agenda. Time is set aside at each meeting for public participation.

🌿 West Sussex councils are asking residents to share their views on local action to reduce emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change.
💬 The West Sussex Joint Climate Change Board would like to hear what matters most to people locally, and whether there is support for councils to lead practical action across the county.
🌳 As the gateway to the South Downs, Hassocks is proud of our beautiful countryside and local environment. Planning ahead will help communities like ours respond to challenges such as flooding, extreme weather and pressure on local services.

⚠️ We have received an important update from South East Water which may affect water supplies in Hassocks.
💧 They have applied to the Environment Agency for a Drought Permit on the River Ouse. If granted, this would temporarily change how water is managed to help keep more water in Ardingly Reservoir and support drinking water supplies.
📝 The proposed changes include reducing the amount of additional water released from Ardingly Reservoir into the Shell Brook tributary of the River Ouse, and reducing the minimum flow of water that must remain in the River Ouse after water has been taken from the river.
🗺️ The yellow area on the map attached (including Hassocks) shows the area where South East Water believe domestic water supplies will benefit from the Drought Permit.
⏰ There is a short consultation, which closes on Friday 4 September 2026. South East Water is also holding webinars for anyone who would like to know more on Tuesday 1 September at 4pm and Wednesday 2 September at 12 noon.

💡 Did you know Adastra Bowling Club - Hassocks has been part of local life here in Hassocks since 1922?

🌳 Based in Adastra Park, the club combines a rich history with a lovely setting, making it a special place to play, socialise and enjoy the outdoors.

👏 Hassocks Parish Council values the community groups that help make Adastra Park such a vibrant and welcoming place - and Adastra Bowling Club is a great example.

📋 The agenda for tomorrow’s Planning Committee meeting is now available on our website.
📅 The committee meets on Tuesday 1 September at 7.30pm in the Green Room, Adastra Hall, Adastra Park, Hassocks, BN6 8QH.
🏠 Councillors will consider five planning applications in the parish. Hassocks Parish Council is not the decision maker, but as a statutory consultee we make recommendations to Mid Sussex District Council or the South Downs National Park Authority before they make their decisions.
💬 The agenda also includes noting the outcomes of 11 applications and appeals, and considering the Mid Sussex District Council consultation on the new District Plan, which runs until 7 September. Two additional sites have been proposed within Hassocks Parish, and the committee will consider our draft response.

🛣️ August has been National Road Victim Month. At Hassocks Parish Council we have been taking the time to remember everyone who has been killed or injured in road traffic collisions, and to recognise the lasting impact these incidents have on families, friends and communities.

ℹ️ Road safety matters locally too. Online collision data suggests there have been around 40–60 recorded road incidents in and around Hassocks over the last five years.

🤝 Whether we are driving, cycling, walking, wheeling or using public transport, we all have a part to play in helping Hassocks stay a safe place to live, work, play and travel.

Local community groups can apply for grants of up to £600 to support projects that benefit residents and help make Hassocks an even better place to live.
