Industrial action by resident doctors is due to take place from 7am Monday 15 June to 7am Friday 19 June.

NHS organisations across Surrey and Sussex have been preparing for the industrial action and are working closely together to minimise disruption and ensure patients continue to receive the care they need.

Please help reduce pressure on NHS services by considering all of the options available to you if you need help. NHS 111 is the best place to start if you're not sure.

Hastings Borough Council is excited about the plans and events being arranged to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the birth of William the Conqueror.

There will be events across Hastings and the rest of the country and in France from this summer and into 2027, as part of the Year of the Normans. National events include the Bayeux Tapestry returning to the UK for the first time in almost 1,000 years at an exhibition at the British Museum. Hastings Museum & Art Gallery is working with the British Museum on the launch of the exhibition.

The Hastings Embroidery, which was created to mark the 900th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings will be on display at Hastings Town Hall. The exhibition will open over August Bank Holiday weekend and will run until the end of October for Hastings Week.

Cllr Julia Hilton, lead councillor for shaping places, regeneration and community wealth building, said: “I am really pleased that we have been able to help fund and plan a huge variety of events and activities in the next few months to celebrate this historic anniversary. I’m really looking forward to seeing how these events reflect and re-tell the story of this important part of our history as a town and country. I hope people will want to come and visit the place that inspired the making of the Bayeux Tapestry.”

We’re proud to support Age Without Limits Day today.

Ageism can affect people’s opportunities, confidence and wellbeing at every stage of life. Together, we can challenge age-based stereotypes and help build a community where everyone is valued, respected and included.

Join the conversation and find out more via the Age Without Limits page.

We need to change the way we think about ageing, visit https://www.agewithoutlimits.org/ for more information.

Community groups, sports clubs, charities and community interest companies (CICs) are encouraged to apply for funding to improve leisure, sport and physical activity facilities across Hastings.

Hastings Borough Council has £700,000 to invest in grants over the next two years to help upgrade and improve spaces where people can be active, connect and thrive.

If you're not quite ready to apply now, don't worry, there will be further rounds available in the coming months. We will also have funding available for clubs and groups that use Hastings Borough Council land in the coming months.

The funding can be used for:
capital improvements to buildings and spaces, including repairs and refurbishments to buildings;
improvements to sports or activity areas;
accessibility improvements;
fixed or permanent equipment.

Applications for essential specialist equipment might also be considered where it is essential to deliver or expand a community leisure activity.

Sheds / Garages / Outbuildings

We urge all residents to keep their sheds, garages & outbuildings locked at all times, especially when not in use. They often contain valuable tools, bikes, or expensive equipment that are attractive targets for thieves.

👮‍♂️ Crime Prevention Tips:
• Use robust security padlocks or deadlocks on doors, consider a surface mounted garage door lock.
• Fit an alarm system, motion sensor lighting and/ or CCTV
• Keep expensive items secured inside using lockable cabinets, ground anchors, or chains.
• Consider trackers for high value machinery.
• Avoid leaving tools or ladders outside - they can be used to gain access to your property.
• Mark valuable items with your postcode using a UV pen or property marking system. DNA marking kits can be collected from Hastings or Battle Police stations free of charge.
• Register valuable equipment at https://orlo.uk/kHktx to help police return stolen items if recovered.

Let’s work together to make our sheds, garages & outbuildings as difficult to access and unattractive to criminals as possible.
See or hear anything suspicious, call 101, for crime in progress, call 999 immediately.
