We are lucky to have adders in Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve, and they may be seen sunbathing in open areas during warmer months.

Please help keep yourself, your dog and our wildlife safe:

- Stay on paths
- Keep dogs close and under control
- Give adders space - they will usually try to escape.

They can bite in self-defence, although bites are very rare. If you or your dog is bitten, get medical help immediately, as they are venomous.

Adders are protected by UK law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, meaning it is illegal to kill, harm, or injure them.

Thank you for enjoying the park responsibly and helping protect these native snakes.

The Torfield MUGA will reopen this evening for the bank holiday weekend. It will be closed again from Tuesday 1 September for a couple of days while work is completed.

Following essential repairs to the Torfield School multi-use games area (MUGA) surface, it will reopen this evening, and remain open over the weekend.

From Monday, repairs to the fencing will begin. This MUGA will be closed for most of next week while this work takes place. We will provide an update once it reopens.

Thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential repairs.

28/08/2026

The deadline for members of the public to submit questions for the Cabinet meeting on Monday 7 September has been extended to 5pm on Tuesday 1 September.

If you have any questions relating to the Cabinet agenda and papers that have now been published, please submit these to the Monitoring Officer at [email protected].

The published Cabinet papers and agenda can be viewed at https://hastings.moderngov.co.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=130&MId=5827&Ver=4

Have you got a question you’d like to ask a lead councillor? We want to make it easier for residents to ask questions so, rather than having to come to the council office during Cabinet meetings, you can now email like you can for Full Council question time.

Questions need to be sent to the Monitoring Officer at [email protected] five working days before Cabinet meetings.

For the September Cabinet meeting on Monday 7 September, questions must be received by 5pm on Thursday 27 August.

You can ask anything related to council business to be answered at the meeting. Residents can attend the meeting and ask a follow-up question related to the original question once they have heard the answer to their initial question. You will no longer be able to ask a question at the meeting that has not been pre-submitted.

Please make sure you include your name and address, and that your question is brief (two short paragraphs). You can only ask one question per meeting. The name of questioners, the question, response and any follow-up will be published in the minutes of the meeting.
