Another step forward for the Hastings Castle and West Hill Project!

The Hastings Castle and West Hill Café project has reached another important milestone following a decision by Hastings Borough Council’s Planning Committee, which has authorised the next stage in the process to close a short section of public footpath, which runs alongside the existing West Hill Café site.

The statutory process can now begin, bringing the project another step closer to construction.

The new visitor centre and café will improve accessibility, visitor facilities, pathways and interpretation across the West Hill site.

Planning permission has been approved for the proposed new Hastings Castle Visitor Centre at the West Hill Café site.

This is an important milestone for the Town Deal-funded West Hill Project, which will improve the visitor experience while helping to protect and enhance one of Hastings' most significant heritage sites.

While planning permission is a major step forward, further statutory approvals are still required before work can begin.

Reminder: Have your say on proposed Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) for Hastings town centre

The consultation on the Hastings Town Centre Public Realm and Green Connections Project closes on 25 June.
East Sussex County Council is seeking feedback on proposed Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs), including:

Introduction of 20mph speed limit on Havelock Road, Harold Place and Pelham Street
Amendments to the road layout on Havelock Road and Harold Place
Amendments to the road layout Wellington Place
Introduction of one-way cycle movement restrictions northbound on Havelock Road

In addition, a statutory consultation is also underway on the proposed removal of four of the ten trees at the eastern end of Robertson Street, to enable elements of the pocket park, sustainable drainage planting (SuDS) and cycle lane.

Artists, INSTAR deliver creative print workshops with young people, as part of the Hastings Town Centre Public Art Commission.

INSTAR have been working with local students in secondary schools and specialist stonemason Steve Roche as designs for Twittens, the Hastings Town Centre Public Art Commission, continue to develop.

Hastings Castle has officially reopened!

The castle welcomed visitors back on Friday 8 May with the 'Creatures of the Castle' event, followed by a family fun day on Sunday.
Troika Projects, the new leaseholders, are bringing fresh energy to the historic landmark with an exciting programme of events, led by Ellie Westbrook and Vanessa Farinha. While essential preservation works continue, the castle is open once again and looking forward to welcoming visitors.
