TRIBUTE | The family of a motorbike-loving Pembrokeshire man who sadly died in collision on Friday 28 August have paid tribute to him.

Luke King, aged 35, of Freystrop near Haverfordwest, died after his motorcycle was involved in a single-vehicle collision on Pembroke Road, Haverfordwest, at around 8.20pm on 28 August.

In a heart-felt tribute, his family said:

"Luke was 35 and a deeply loved son, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. He leaves behind his mum Hayley, his girlfriend, his grandparents, aunties, uncles, many cousins and countless friends who loved him dearly. His dad had sadly passed away before him.

“Luke was a larger-than-life character who lit up every room with his infectious energy, his laugh and his beautiful smile. He was funny, loving, mischievous, hardworking and completely unforgettable.

“He loved his motorbikes, adored his dog, Digger, and took enormous pride in his work in construction and groundworks. He had recently set up his own company, something he was incredibly proud of and had worked hard to build.

“Although Luke was an only child, his friends were like family to him. He treasured them deeply and spent so much of his life surrounded by people who loved him, making memories, laughing and enjoying life together.

“Luke lived an immense amount of life in his 35 years. He lived it to the full and was so happy, with so much still ahead of him. He had achieved so much, but it felt like he was only just getting started.

“The outpouring of messages and memories since losing Luke has shown just how many lives he touched. There was only one Luke, and we will miss his laugh, his smile, his bear hugs and his huge personality every single day. We will carry him with us always and love him for the rest of our lives."

E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act. Which means the rules that apply to motor vehicles, also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence, insurance and tax.

It's not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters, which means it's illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces.

If you don't have a licence, or the correct licence, or are riding without insurance you could face a Fixed Penalty notice:
⚠️ with a £300 fine and six penalty points on your licence for having no insurance
⚠️ up to £100 fine and three to six penalty points for riding without the correct licence

You could also be committing an offence if you're caught:
❌ riding on a pavement
❌ using a mobile phone or other handheld mobile device while riding
❌ riding through red lights
❌ drink driving: the same as if you were driving a car, you could face court imposed fines, a driving ban and possible imprisonment

⚠️ Could you spot a shoplifter? They’re not always what you’d expect - specialising at blending in with shoppers. But you can often identify a shoplifter by their behaviour.

There are a number of tell-tale signs that flag up a shoplifter. But remember, while the following don't necessarily mean the person is guilty – and be aware that you are responsible for your behaviour, both legally and commercially – we recommend that you keep an eye on shoppers who:

🔸 seem to be watching you and the staff rather than shopping and may be waiting for the right moment to steal an item.
🔸 seem to want to keep your attention and talk for the sake of it – possibly because an accomplice is elsewhere stealing.
🔸 look like they’re taking little notice of your products.
🔸 seem a little nervous and possibly pick up random items with little interest.
🔸 keep refusing your offer of help or assistance.
🔸 frequently enter your store and never make a purchase.
🔸 want you to unlock and open cabinets but don’t buy anything.

If you see them take something, then ask them politely to put the item back but be careful to keep your tone neutral and back off if you feel threatened. Always be sure they’ve taken something before you speak to them – and only if you feel it’s safe to do so.

❗ We are appealing for witnesses following an incident at 10:15pm on Friday (21/8) whereby a man was found with injuries on Station Road in Letterston.
Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from the ambulance service, and the man was taken to hospital where he currently remains.
A 38-year-old woman from Haverfordwest has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and has been released on bail.
Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have information relating to this incident.

GUILTY | Man admits travelling from Cardiff to Pembrokeshire to supply class A drugs.

Daniel Rockett, 43, of Rhiwderyn Close, Cardiff, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of co***ne at Swansea Crown Court today (21 August).

At around 11.45pm on Tuesday 21 July, Pembrokeshire roads policing officers stopped a vehicle on the A4076 near Johnston, Haverfordwest, following information that the car was being used for dealing drugs.

Officers acted on evidence that Rockett’s vehicle – a silver Nissan Qashqai - had travelled from Cardiff to Milford Haven on three separate occasions the week prior to his arrest, staying in the area for as little as 10 minutes before returning to Cardiff.

With reason to suspect these regular journeys were for drug dealing purposes, roads policing officers were joined by detectives and police dog Eric to search the vehicle.

In the boot, the search team found 142g of co***ne stuffed inside a mobile phone accessory bag which was buried in the spare wheel compartment.

A drugs expert at Dyfed-Powys Police suggested that this amount of co***ne would carry a street value of between £14,240 and £17,800.

Rockett was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and later charged and remanded into custody.

A search of his home address found more drug paraphernalia and small amounts of co***ne and cannabis. Text messages downloaded from Rockett’s mobile phone further strengthened the case that Rockett was involved in the supply of co***ne.

Despite initially attempting to persuade officers that he was being threatened into dealing drugs, Daniel Rockett pleaded guilty as charged before the judge at Swansea Crown Court.

He will be sentenced on 10 September 2026.

💬Detective sergeant Vinny Barrett said: “The strength of evidence against Rockett led him to plead guilty today, and we welcome his decision to take accountability for his offending.

“There is no reasonable excuse for bringing drugs into our force area, and this result is a testament to our commitment to making Dyfed-Powys hostile to those who deal drugs.

“We await his sentencing.”

APPEAL | We're investigating a two-vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on the A40, near Robeston Wathen, at around 9:15am on Wednesday, 19 August. The collision involved a white Seat Arona and a blue Honda Civic.

Sadly, the man driving the Seat passed away at the scene. Next of kin have been informed and will continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Last week Haverfordwest NPPT attended Pembrokeshire People First.

The moving on group discussed about the topic consent and boundaries.
It was a great opportunity for members to learn, ask questions and have open conversations about understanding personal boundaries, respecting others and knowing when and how to give consent.
