Guarding the potatoes!

This photograph from 1976 shows a guard and his Alsatian protecting a potato crop in Pembrokeshire.

The archive record doesn’t tell us why the potatoes needed this level of security, which leaves us with plenty of questions!

Have you ever heard of a potato field being guarded like this?

Gwarchod y tatws! 🥔🐕

Mae’r ffotograff hwn o 1976 yn dangos gwarchodwr a’i gi Alsasaidd yn gwarchod cnwd o datws yn Sir Benfro.

Nid yw cofnod yr archif yn dweud pam roedd angen cymaint o ddiogelwch ar y tatws, sy’n gadael digon o gwestiynau inni!

Ydych chi erioed wedi clywed am g*e tatws yn cael ei warchod fel hyn?

Are you looking for a special someone in your life? We have a copy of The Matrimonial Post from June 1913 which include searches for: a lady not fond of society, a lady who must possess a well-trained soprano voice, a lady interested in poultry farming, a pupil on a tea plantation, and a gentleman who would pay part of the mortgage off. At least they can’t be accused of sending mixed messages!

❤️💋💘

Ydych chi'n chwilio am rywun arbennig yn eich bywyd? Mae gennym gopi o The Matrimonial Post o fis Mehefin 1913 sy'n cynnwys chwiliadau am y canlynol: menyw nad yw'n hoff o gymdeithas, menyw y mae'n rhaid iddi feddu ar lais soprano hyfforddedig, menyw sydd â diddordeb mewn ffermio dofednod, dysgwraig ar blanhigfa de, a gŵr bonheddig a fyddai'n talu rhan o'r morgais. O leiaf doedden nhw ddim yn anfon negeseuon amwys!

On 18th August 1892, Pembrokeshire was rocked by an earthquake. The South Wales Daily News reported on the impact in different towns. In Haverfordwest ‘the inhabitants were thrown into a state of panic’. Meanwhile, in Tenby, people attributed the noise to carriages returning from the mayor’s ball, where dancers in the Assembly Rooms were unaware of the disturbance.

🤯

Ar 18 Awst 1892, cafodd Sir Benfro ei hysgwyd gan ddaeargryn. Adroddodd y papur newydd South Wales Daily News ar yr effaith ar wahanol drefi. Yn Hwlffordd ‘roedd yr holl drigolion wedi’u cynhyrfu’n llwyr’. Yn y cyfamser, yn Ninbych-y-pysgod, priodolodd pobl y sŵn i gerbydau a oedd yn dychwelyd o ddawns y maer, ac nid oedd y dawnswyr yn yr ystafelloedd ymgynnull yn ymwybodol o'r cynnwrf.
