ANOTHER SATURDAY, ANOTHER FANTASTIC WALK 💚

From the magnificent splendour of Kinder Downfall last week to Lud's Church: an awe-inspiring, magical steep gully with vibrant mosses and ferns.

A perfect walk for a damp and misty late summer Saturday.

From 18-27 September, the High Peak Walking Festival is back for its third year, celebrating the spectacular landscapes, heritage and outdoor adventures of the Peak District.

Whether you're a seasoned hiker or prefer a gentle stroll, there’s a walk for you. Here are just a few of the highlights:

⛰️ Edale Skyline Challenge Walk: Take on this classic high-level route through some of the Peak District’s most dramatic scenery.

🌿 Errwood & The Tors Heritage Walk: Explore the beautiful Goyt Valley, discover the ruins of Errwood Hall and enjoy panoramic views from Shining Tor.

🏭 Steel to Cotton Trail: Follow the fascinating heritage story from Chinley to New Mills on a one-way walk with Hayfield Walkers are Welcome.

📸 Glossop Photo Walk: Combine walking and photography on a relaxed, sociable stroll through the historic streets and landscapes of Glossop.

🌅 Golden Hour Ridge Walk: Finish the day with a peaceful evening walk along Rushup Edge as the landscape takes on the golden light of sunset.

And that’s just the beginning! There’s a whole programme of guided walks, heritage trails, navigation activities and community events to discover across the High Peak.

THANK YOU TO THE TEAM AT ALLIANCE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES High Peak Borough Council FOR DOING SUCH AN EXCELLENT JOB IN CLEARING MASSES OF VEGETATION FROM GARDENS AND FOOTPATHS IN SHUDEHILL CLOSE.

Residents were delighted with the quick response to my request and also commented on how lovely the team were!

Neighbours were inspired to get out the secateurs and clear some of the heavy growth off the surrounding walls.

I THINK I HAVE DONE THE MOST STUNNING WALK EVER TODAY 💚 💜💙🩶

Hayfield Walkers Are Welcome and celebrated rock climber and mountaineer, Brian Hall, led us up the Kinder River, to a large ledge, right at the very bottom of the Downfall, almost within touching distance of the Plateau.

Brian gave us fascinating insights into the history and evolution of rock climbing from the early 19th Century to the present day, and of how climbers from Manchester, Sheffield, Stockport and Glossop have come to scale the gritstone edges of Kinder, mapping out and naming climbs.

The views were spectacular and the company wonderful.

Thank you Hayfield Walkers Are Welcome and thank you Brian! It was a very special, almost magical day.

WHAT A WONDERFULLY RELAXING AND CREATIVE WAY TO SPEND AN AFTERNOON - PRACTISING VISIBLE MENDING ❤️

Today I started my first sashiko mending on a much-loved pair of jeans.

Two incredible stitchers, Pennie Roberts and Ruth, shared their skills with the group, keen to try out their artistic ideas and crafting skills to prolong the life of our clothes, save good fabric from landfill and create unique and beautiful designs.

Thank you to all involved. I look forward to our next session 💚
