🟣 International Overdose Awareness Day 🟣

On 31st August, we join communities around the world to mark International Overdose Awareness Day, a day to remember those we have lost, support those left behind, and raise awareness that overdose can affect anyone, regardless of their background or circumstances.

At our treatment centre, we know that behind every overdose statistic is a person: a son, daughter, parent, partner, friend or colleague. We also know that addiction does not discriminate, and that stigma can often prevent people from reaching out for the help they need.

Today, we remember those whose lives were cut short. We hold space for the families and loved ones carrying grief. And we stand alongside those who are still struggling, reminding them that they are not alone.

Importantly, we also want to share a message of hope: recovery is possible. Every day, we see individuals rebuild their lives, reconnect with their families, restore their health and discover a future free from active addiction.

International Overdose Awareness Day is not only a time to remember. It is a time to act. By talking openly about addiction, reducing stigma, encouraging people to seek support, and increasing awareness of overdose prevention, we can help save lives.

💜 Time to remember. Time to act. 💜 Remember those we have lost. 💜 Support those affected. 💜 Celebrate recovery and hope.

If you or someone you love is struggling with drugs or alcohol, please know that help is available and recovery is possible.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day🐾

Today we are celebrating all things canine and sharing a story that has brought lots of smiles to Bosence!

After recently leaving our rehabilitation service, one of our residents welcomed a very special companion into his life…Charlie-Dog! 🐶 We are absolutely delighted that these two found each other, and we wish them many happy adventures together!

Charlie-Dog’s arrival has also sparked some wonderful conversations between our staff and residents about our own beloved four-legged friends. It has been lovely sharing stories, photos and memories of the dogs that bring so much joy to our lives.

So, we’d would like you to meet our extended furry family:
🐾Charlie-Dog
🐾Huff (Bosence Welfare Officer)
🐾Pocket
🐾Lexi
🐾Benji
🐾Maggie-May
🐾Reggie
🐾Minnie
🐾Chip
🐾Ethel
🐾Willow
🐾Dougie
🐾Izzy
🐾Ebony- who will be 15 tomorrow!

Dogs have such a special way of bringing comfort, companionship, laughter and unconditional love. Today we’re celebrating every wagging tail, muddy paw print and happy bark that makes life a little brighter. Happy National Dog Day from all of us! ♥️🐾

The Benefits of Group Therapy in Recovery

Group therapy plays an important role in recovery by bringing people together in a supportive, understanding environment. It helps reduce feelings of isolation, encourages connection, and reminds individuals that they are not alone in their journey.

By sharing experiences and learning from others, participants can develop new coping strategies, build confidence, and gain motivation from the progress of their peers. Group therapy also creates a sense of accountability and community, helping people stay focused on their recovery goals and fostering long-term wellbeing.

At Bosence, we run a range of group workshops to support recovery, including Feelings, Boundaries, Bills & Budgeting, Guilt Management, Fear, and Stress Management, as well as many other topics focused on wellbeing and personal development.

🌸 The Water Lily and Recovery: Rising Above the Mud 🌸

At our treatment centre, the water lily holds a special meaning. It is a powerful symbol of recovery, rebirth and personal transformation.

The water lily begins its life rooted deep in the mud at the bottom of a pond. Yet despite its surroundings, it grows steadily upwards through the water until it reaches the surface and blooms beautifully in the sunlight. It is not held back by where it started. Instead, it uses those challenging conditions as the foundation for growth.

This journey closely mirrors the experience of addiction recovery. Many people arrive at treatment feeling lost, overwhelmed or trapped by the difficulties they have faced. The pain, trauma and challenges of addiction can feel like the mud beneath the surface. But recovery offers the opportunity to move beyond those struggles, one day at a time, towards healing, hope and a renewed sense of purpose.

Just as the water lily reaches for the light, recovery is about discovering the strength that has always been there, learning new ways of living, and finding peace within ourselves. The flower reminds us that our past does not define us. No matter how difficult our journey has been, growth and change are possible.

Every day, we witness incredible transformations within our community. People rebuild relationships, regain confidence, discover new opportunities and create lives they never thought possible. Like the water lily, they emerge stronger, wiser and ready to flourish.

🌸 The mud does not diminish the beauty of the flower. Instead, it is part of its story.

For anyone currently on their recovery journey, remember that growth is happening even when you cannot see it. Keep moving forward, keep reaching for the light, and trust the process.
