Are you an organised and ambitious professional with experience in finance and local government? Haywards Heath Town Council is looking for a Deputy Town Clerk and Finance Manager to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the leadership, governance and financial management of the Council. Working closely with the Town Clerk, you'll help deliver high-quality council services, ensure robust financial control, and support the strategic development of the Council. You'll also deputise for the Town Clerk when required, acting as Proper Officer and supporting elected members.

Location: Haywards Heath Town Council
Salary: SCP 24–33 (£35,412–£44,075), depending on experience and qualifications
Application Deadline: 17 July 2026

An Amber and Red Heat-Health Alert is in place across the South East, including West Sussex.
•Amber alert: Heat is likely to affect the wider population, especially vulnerable groups.
•Red alert: A risk to life even for healthy people, with possible disruption to travel, services, and infrastructure.
Please take extra care and follow the guidance below:

Stay cool & hydrated
•Drink plenty of fluids
•Keep out of the sun, especially between 11am–3pm
•Close curtains in sun-facing rooms
•If going out, take water, stay in the shade, and wear sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat

Town Hall Support
•Sun cream available for residents to apply
•Refill your water bottles
•Cups of cold water available

Water safety
•Enter water gradually – avoid jumping or diving straight in
•Use lifeguarded or supervised swimming areas
•If in difficulty, float on your back

Keep pets safe
•Avoid walking pets during the hottest part of the day
•Hot pavements can burn paws—walk early morning or late evening instead
•Ensure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade
•Never leave pets in parked cars

Travel safely in the heat
•Check road, bus, and train updates before travelling
•Carry water and consider a handheld fan
•If unwell, get off at the next stop for fresh air
•Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
•Look out for fellow passengers

Look out for others
•Check on vulnerable people, including older neighbours, those with health conditions, and anyone living alone

Health concerns
•If worried about your health or someone else’s, call NHS 111

Be prepared
•Prepare for possible power cuts – keep torches, spare batteries, and a phone power pack ready
