A red heat-health alert is in place across southern England and the Midlands. This means extreme heat could affect everyone, including healthy people, and may also impact transport, food, water and energy. This is only the second time a red alert has been issued, the last being in July 2022.

It’s not surprising news. We have a few days of very hot weather. There are so many things that should be considered so please do your bit:
- no unattended or unnecessary fires
- remember, cold water swimming can kill
- stay hydrated and look after the young and elderly

This is the amount of equipment a modern day Fire Appliance carries. We carry equipment for varying rescues from Fires, Traffic Collisions, Casualty Rescue, Animal Rescue and Safety Checks.
It was all hands to the pump as Heathfield Community Fire Station swiftly changed over appliance.

🚒 Congratulations Nick Maher — 28 Years of Service!

After an incredible 28 years, Nick Maher Nick Maher has hung up his helmet at Heathfield Community Fire Station, having joined East Sussex Fire and Rescue back in 1998.

Nick has been a cornerstone of the Heathfield community, with the dedication and professionalism that defines the very best of the blue light services.

Over nearly three decades, Nick has not only protected lives and property, but has mentored the next generation of firefighters, passing on his knowledge, experience, and values to those who will carry the torch forward.

Tonight marked Nick's final drill night — pictured here with his crew, in kit, in the station he called home. What a way to sign off. 🫡

To the community he served, the colleagues he stood alongside, and the many he mentored along the way — Nick, your contribution means more than words can say.

Thank you for your service, your dedication, and everything you've given. 🔵🚒

Heathfield Community Fire Station specialist Environmental Protection Unit appliance called for an emergency incident in Pevensey Eastbourne.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue crew from Crowborough together with specialist resource from East Grinstead, contained and extinguished a fire in the open caused by an out of control bonfire.

Please respect and take extra care with bonfires.
