"Calderdale Energy Park Consultation Update
Thank you to those who have already submitted a response to our statutory consultation. Your feedback is appreciated.
It has come to our attention that some of the consultation materials included an incorrect email address for the project.
If you have submitted your consultation response to [email protected] prior to Friday 05 June 2026 then unfortunately we have not received your response, and your feedback cannot be processed.
Due to this technical error, additional time is being provided to allow anybody who submitted their consultation response via email to [email protected] before Friday 05 June 2026 to resubmit their response.
If you have submitted your response to this email address before this date, please resubmit it via one of the options set out below by 11:59pm on Wednesday 08 July 2026.
If you have submitted your consultation response by any of the below contact channels, we have received your feedback, and you do not need to resubmit your response:

Today we arranged for the Pride flag to be displayed over the river in the centre of Hebden Bridge, celebrating each and every member of our LGBTQIA+ community. The flag will remain in place for the duration of June reminding everyone that we are here to stay and, as would say, we are equally beautiful and equally valid.

We would like to thank our funders at for their continued support, and thanks to Friends of Dorothy too.

After being in touch with Councillor Sarah Courtney over the past week we are supporting her Raise a Rainbow campaign, which is raising funds to put Pride banners across Calderdale.

⚠️ The statutory consultation on Calderdale Energy Park (CEP) closes soon! ⚠️

CEP is a proposal to build an onshore windfarm on Walshaw Moor, which is opposed by Hebden Royd Town Council (HRTC), based on responses to a community survey in October 2025.

Email [email protected] to oppose a 34 turbine wind farm on Walshaw Moor, above Hebden Bridge! Peatland Alliance says this about the consultation:

🌱 It does not justify why a wind farm should be built on protected peatland rather than elsewhere.

🌱 It does not demonstrate that alternative locations were ruled out before selecting Walshaw Moor.

🌱 It reframes public concern as being about “deep peat” when many respondents objected to development on any protected peatland.

🌱 It uses the wrong definition of peat that may underestimate the area affected and the amount of carbon at risk.

🌱 It appears to underestimate potential CO₂ emissions from peat disturbance.

🌱 It omits key information needed to assess future flood risk modelling.

🌱 The Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment does not explain what data the final Flood Risk Assessment will be based on.

🌱 Natural England’s advice on identifying and assessing blanket bogs appears not to have been fully reflected in the assessment.

🌱 The predicted loss and degradation of blanket bog may therefore be underestimated.

🌱 Claims that excavated peat can be reused for restoration are presented without long-term evidence that this approach is effective.

🌱 The consultation provides limited information about impacts on peatland hydrology, flood risk, protected habitats and species. See our website for details.

🌱 The consultation asks the public to comment before several key assessments have been completed.

We are honoured to be hosting our friends from Warstein this weekend, to celebrate 30 years of twinning between Hebden Royd and Warstein.

Yesterday we held an open discussion on the theme of refugees, migration and forced migration - sharing experiences and learning from one another.

This peer-to-peer knowledge sharing across borders provides invaluable perspectives and we're deeply grateful for this connection between our two towns.

Here's to another 30 years of partnership! 🇩🇪🇬🇧

A heartfelt thank you for the warm and generous welcome in Hebden Royd. It was a great pleasure and honour to celebrate this special occasion together with my fellow mayor Alex Turner, deputy major of Hebden Royd Town Council. 🤝

I was particularly honoured to have the opportunity to speak in the Council Chamber. Moments like these remind us that town twinning is much more than an official partnership – it is built on friendships, personal connections and meaningful exchanges between people.🙏

For 30 years, Hebden Royd and Warstein have shared a close and valued friendship. It is a great privilege and joy for me to help keep this partnership alive and continue filling it with life, ideas and encounters.🚀

I was also delighted to meet my counterpart in person and exchange views on our communities, shared challenges and the future of our partnership - thank you for having us, Alex! 🙌

🌲🌳 Yesterday evening, Hebden Royd Town Council's Local Environment Officer, Gareth Muir, met with Councillors and members of the community alongside Phil Singh Upper Valley Area Officer for Calderdale Council Countryside Service at Dodnaze Woodland. 🌳🌲

Cllrs Guilfoyle and Parry of Hebden Royd Town Council and Cllr Courtney, Ward Councillor for Calderdale were in attendance and gained insight into the issues affecting the site.

The group had a walk over of the site, discussing several issues which affect the woodland. These include access, safety and biodiversity and how the community can support the site in through future volunteering activities.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 🎺

Last week, the Community Funding Committee held its first meeting of the 2026/27 Council year. Councillor Guilfoyle was voted in as Chair of the Committee, with Councillor Hoyle voted in as Deputy Chair.

Hebden Bridge Junior Band was awarded £5,000 for instruments, tuition, travel and uniform for new and existing band members, aged between 7 to 19. Hebden Royd Town Council is delighted to be supporting this initiative and assisting with membership costs for young people whose families face financial barriers.

A very exciting delivery has just landed at the Hebden Royd Town Council office! These swift boxes will very soon be being installed across Hebden Royd, by Countryside and Woodlands Team in partnership with Calderdale Council and the RSPB, funded by the Community Foundation for Calderdale.

Swift numbers have fallen by 62% since 1995, largely due to the loss of nesting sites.

The swift boxes have now all been allocated, so anyone who applied for one should have heard back as to whether or not their premises was suitable to host a swift box.

We hope there'll be funding for more swift boxes in the future.

In the meantime, we're looking forward to seeing these boxes in use as safe nesting sites for these lovely birds.

We'd love to hear any success stories, so please send photos if you're having one installed and see them in use!
