๐Ÿ”ฅ GARELOCHHEAD โ€” WE NEED YOU! ๐Ÿš’

Have you ever thought about becoming an On-Call Firefighter with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service?

Garelochhead is one of the Serviceโ€™s strategically important stations, providing a vital emergency response to the local community and surrounding areas. To maintain that response, we need people from the local community to step forward.

Being an On-Call Firefighter is about much more than fighting fires. You could be called upon to attend road traffic collisions, fires, rescues, flooding and other emergencies, helping people when they need it most.

Why become an On-Call Firefighter?

๐Ÿ”ฅ Make a genuine difference to your local community
๐Ÿค Become part of a highly trained and supportive team
๐Ÿ’ช Develop your fitness, confidence and resilience
๐Ÿง  Learn valuable skills including first aid, rescue and emergency response
๐Ÿ“š Receive full training โ€” no previous firefighting experience is required
๐Ÿ’ท Get paid for your training, availability and operational response
๐Ÿš’ Gain skills and experience that can benefit you both personally and professionally
โค๏ธ Most importantly, be there for your community when it matters most

Could you be eligible?

You generally need to:

โœ… Be 18 or over
โœ… Have the right to work in the UK
โœ… Be able to reach Garelochhead Fire Station within the required response time
โœ… Have the required level of fitness and meet the relevant medical/vision standards
โœ… Be able to provide the required availability
โœ… Be willing to undertake training and ongoing development

You donโ€™t need to be a firefighter already. SFRS will train and support you throughout the process.

Being an On-Call Firefighter can fit around work, family and other commitments, making it an ideal opportunity for people who want to give something back while developing themselves.

Garelochhead needs people who are willing to step forward.

Could you be one of them?

๐Ÿš’ Join the team. Protect your community. Make a difference.

Good afternoon all,

Thereโ€™s been a lot of organising in the background with this event which will be the 3rd year in succession of it running.

Scottish fire and rescue v Capita fire and rescue, with Capita winning the last 2 outings we can only imagine SFRS will be out to put a stop to capitas dominance!

In the first two years weโ€™ve raised a combined total of ยฃ3800 which all goes to the firefighters charity.

After this event, there will be refreshments at dumbuck bowling club. If anyone can get along and support this event we would really appreciate it!

Come along, watch a very competitive game and enjoy the day out which is suited for everyone!

A busy day for some of the crew from Garelochhead today!

0630 start to begin our trip up to Oban to carry out our tactical firefighting course.

With 6 crew members making the journey, it was an intense day with some high intense heat within the containers.

A lot of learning points were taken from the day which only benefits us by bettering our firefighting skills.

Some good photos and some questionable photos ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿš’

This weekend was an active weekend for our crew at Garelochhead community fire station.

On Friday evening we attended a chimney fire, luckily this was contained and extinguished very quickly and we were back to station within an hour.

Saturday afternoon, road traffic collision was our next call and fortunately nothing serious.

Saturday evening, a small fire in the open that the crew extinguished very quickly and we were on our way again.

Early hours of Sunday morning fire alarm sound, building inspected nothing identified and back on our way.

Being an on call firefighter isnโ€™t just attending fires, as you can see from the weekend weโ€™ve just had the incidents vary and no two jobs are the same. All outcomes from these incidents were positive ones.

Is this something you would be interested in being part of? Would you like to help make a difference and be there when called upon to help others?

If so, we are recruiting! Get in contact with the station or find the job application on myjobscotland.
