All set for the coffee morning this Saturday. RNLI Christmas cards and stocking fillers on sale and plenty of freshly brewed tea, coffee and homemade baking as well as our fabulous raffle prizes.

Come along and meet your friends - We have created more space this year so lots of room for all.

The lifeboat was on exercise in the Clyde Dockyard area last Wednesday about 3.45 pm when the Coastguard requested assistance to rescue a person who was stranded by the tide close to Erskine Bridge.

The lifeboat reached the bridge about 4.15 pm and the crew quickly located the stranded person. The person, who was dry and not distressed, was taken ashore to where the Coastguard rescue team were waiting. The lifeboat then continued with the exercise.

Thank you to everyone who came to our sell out ‘bingo and fish and chip night’. We raised an amazing £1,300 for Helensburgh Lifeboat and had a lot of fun too.

A big thank you to Kenny and staff at Wilkies for managing our ticket sales and to Debbie and her family and staff at The Sun Chippy for their delicious fish and chips. Thank you too, to Helensburgh Sailing Club for the use of the Club.

Athletics Club eats cake for Helensburgh Lifeboat

Helensburgh Amateur Athletic Club (HAAC), a charity based in Helensburgh, has raised a fantastic £600 for the RNLI and Helensburgh lifeboat.

During the year the club has a cake stall at the Helensburgh 10 km which is part of the Babcock series and also an annual ‘cake run’ where Club members meet at Rhu Marina for a short run before finishing to eat cake in return for a small donation.

Alan Oliver, Club President said, “I am delighted to present the cheque to our Helensburgh lifeboat station in Rhu. Club members chose this charity in recognition of the good work they do in the waters arouns Helensburgh. Athletics club members, junior and senior are very much part of the community and are always enthusiastic about raising money for local charities.”

Howard Morrison Lifeboat Operations Manager said, “ We are very grateful to the Athletics club members for their support and generous donation. As a charity we rely on donations to help us to save lives at sea. Our crew is on call 24/7/365 days a year and donations, such as this, help us to buy essential equipment and train our volunteers as well as maintain our lifeboat and station.

The Athletics club has a junior section which meets and trains under the guidance of their coaches at Hermitage Academy. The senior section has about 70 members who run mainly on the roads and trail around Helensburgh, many run distances up to and beyond marathon distances.

UPDATE: Calling all ‘bingo and fish and chip ticket holders’ …
Many thanks for buying tickets for our first fundraising "bingo and fish and chips night". Your support really does help us save lives at sea.
We are planning a fun night's entertainment, with great raffle prizes.

In order for the evening to run smoothly and ensure everyone gets some hot fish and chips or alternative; please can you arrive in time to collect your bingo tickets and ‘dabber’, order your drinks at the bar and be seated promptly for 7:30pm.

The bar opens at 6:45pm so there is plenty of time. Our food delivery will arrive just before 7:30pm, and following supper, we will be serving tea and coffee and homebaking, with a view to being ready for "eyes down" at 8:15 pm.

Helensburgh lifeboat crew member, Thea, took part in the ‘Women in Search and Rescue (SAR)’ event last weekend.

More than 40 RNLI women from 24 lifeboat stations - all crew members, attended the weekend. The event was hosted by Dunbar, Eyemouth lifeboat stations and the independent lifeboat.

The women took part in exercises afloat and ashore, skills workshops and shared learning to connect, inspire and support women involved in maritime rescue.
Alongside the practical exercises, volunteers also took part in classroom-based sessions and professional discussions.

The initiative is the second of its kind in Scotland, after an inaugural event in Inverness last year. Launched in 2019 by the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF), Women in SAR (WISAR) is a global movement open to all lifeboat stations, including the RNLI and independent operations.
