This inclusive space fosters social connection & exceptional horticultural practices to enhance the garden’s natural beauty. Built in 1759, Helmsley Walled Garden is a beautiful five acre garden sitting beneath the imposing ruins of Helmsley Castle. Originally providing the vegetables, fruit and flowers for the table of Duncombe Park until just after World War 1, it fell into dereliction after it

closed its doors for the final time in 1984. Restoration started in 1994 and since then the Garden has gone from strength to strength through the dedication and care of staff and volunteers. Attractions include restored glasshouses full of colour, double herbaceous borders, a brand new clematis garden showcasing over 150 different varieties. Fruit trees clothe the walls and the grounds, including a special collection of Yorkshire apple cultivars and vegetable plots provide some of the ingredients for the delicious dishes in the Vinehouse Café.

A beautiful evening was had by all!

Thank you everyone who came along to our Glorious Garden Picnic on Friday evening. What a perfect night for it!

We hope you enjoyed it just a much as we did?! It was wonderful to see everyone relaxing with friends and family and taking in the garden's magical evening atmosphere.

Another huge thank you must also go to the Yorkshire Voices Choir (www.yorkshirevoices.com) for providing fabulous entertainment. They even had us all singing along!

We were thrilled to launch our new fundraising appeal, Growing a Bright Future, at this event. With all proceeds going towards replacing an old glasshouse, so we can provide a warm, dry, and usable space for our dedicated volunteers and wider community. Happy Friday, folks!

The sun is shining and it's a bit cooler, which makes for a perfect day ahead! Especially as we have our Glorious Garden Picnic, with a performance by the Yorkshire Voices Choir, going ahead this evening. There are still plenty of tickets remaining if you'd like to join us. Saturday 5 September, Helmsley Market Place - Dress up, bring a chair, join in!

Tour of Britain Stage 4 Race Start (at 11:00) followed by the Heart of Helmsley Launch and a day of fun activities (11:30-15:00), supported by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority Mayoral High Street Fund.

Big screen showing the race, Town Crier, live music, fancy dress competition, decoration competition, street performers, information about local community groups and volunteering opportunities.

Here's to our hardworking volunteers who keep the show on the road. Without them the garden would not be the beautiful, tranquil space we all know and love. Their care and attention knows no bounds. Our Glorious Garden Picnic Evening is only one week away! And we're beyond excited to welcome the Yorkshire Voices choir to perform for one night only. Their upbeat harmonies will have you singing along, and possibly even dancing around the garden!

There will also be plenty of time to enjoy exploring the garden after hours, and take in our current exhibition; Sculpture in the Garden, by the Yorkshire Sculptors Group.

Bring along your own picnic, chairs, and blankets and settle in for a tranquil summer's evening in the garden.

Tickets are £20 per person. All proceeds go to our current fundraising appeal; Growing a Bright Future. Free entry for under 16's and carers.

Hello from us and our Garden Shop menagerie 👋

It's great to welcome you back for another week of garden adventures!

We have lot's of lovely new products in the shop, and we couldn't help but take them out into the garden for a little photo shoot.

We have everything from preserves, garden tools & accessories, apple juice from our orchard, to books and art supplies. And of course a great selection of cards, all relevant to our beautiful garden.

So, don't forget to pop into the shop during your visit for a little treat.

Do you appreciate contemporary art and sculpture?

If it's a yes, then come along and immerse yourself in our current exhibition; Sculpture in the Garden, by the Yorkshire Sculptors Group.

If you're not sure, then come along anyway! The installations only enhance the garden in all it's high summer glory.

This striking collaboration celebrates diverse, contemporary sculpture working in harmony with the unique reflective setting of the garden.

If you're planning a visit, then be sure to pick up a sculpture trail map at the admissions kiosk. There are 18 installations to take in as you explore the 5-acre site.

The exhibition is included with garden entry. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm. Dogs on leads are welcome.

Exhibition ends on Saturday the 5th of September.
