🚧 The tale of a leaning bollard…

Meet Bollard Number 5. On Sunday 2 August, he had a rather unfortunate encounter with a car and was left feeling decidedly… horizontal.

What happened next?

😢 2 Aug – Bollard down
📩 3 Aug – reported to the JPC
➡️ 6 Aug – JPC reports it to WCC Highways
💡 7 Aug – passed to Street Lighting
🚨 8 Aug – emergency contractor alerted
✨ 10 Aug – replacement bollard fitted and Number 5 was back in action

Eight days, several steps and Bollard Number 5 was back on duty 🫡

It’s a small example of what happens behind the scenes when something is reported to us. The JPC can’t fix everything itself, but we can get issues to the people who can, and help move them along.

So please keep reporting things when you spot them by emailing [email protected].

Important update: HEN.1 and the Regulation 19 consultation

We’ve received queries about whether new documents on the SDC planning portal invalidate the Regulation 19 consultation. The short answer is no.

Regulation 19 is the final consultation on the South Warwickshire Local Plan before it is submitted for independent examination. It is an opportunity to comment on whether the Plan, including HEN.1, is legally compliant and sound.

The new documents have been submitted as part of an environmental scoping request. This is an early step which asks what environmental information would need to be provided with any future planning application.

It is not a planning application, no planning permission has been granted and the plans do not replace the HEN.1 proposal currently being considered through Regulation 19.

There are differences between the plans and these may raise further questions, but they do not invalidate the consultation or any responses already submitted.

Please continue to have your say by 8 September. The JPC is reviewing the new documents and will consider whether they add anything to the points we’ll be raising in our own response.

🚗 Arden Road parking update

Following concerns raised about parking on Arden Road, the Joint Parish Council contacted Warwickshire County Council to ask what could be done to help address the issue.

WCC has confirmed that its Road Safety Education Team will be made aware of the concerns and may contact the school to look at measures that could help improve the situation, particularly around busy drop off and pick up times.

Residents are also reminded that dangerous or obstructive parking can be reported to Warwickshire Police, who have powers to take action where appropriate.

We'll continue to raise concerns with the relevant authorities on behalf of residents and keep you updated on any further developments.

🏃 Could Henley-in-Arden have its own parkrun?

The Joint Parish Council is working with Henley-in-Arden Memorial Hall Trust to explore an exciting idea for the Arden Recreational Centre: a dedicated walking and running track, with the potential to host both a regular 5k parkrun and junior parkrun.

A track could give people of all ages somewhere local to walk, jog and run throughout the week, while parkrun could provide a regular opportunity to get active, meet people and enjoy being part of a community event.

And you don’t need to be a runner to get involved!

parkrun is powered by volunteers. Each event relies on local people helping with things like marshalling, welcoming participants, timing and barcode scanning. You don’t need any previous experience and you wouldn’t need to volunteer every week.

But before we take the idea further, we’d really like to hear from you.

🏃 Would you take part in a 5k parkrun?
👟 Would your children or younger family members be interested in junior parkrun?
🙋 Would you consider volunteering from time to time?
🚶 Would you use the track for walking, jogging or running at other times?

We’re still at the early stages and no decisions have been made. We want to understand whether there’s enough interest in our community to develop the idea further.

So, what do you think?

Let us know in the comments. Whether you’re a runner, walker, parent, potential volunteer or simply think this could be a good addition to the Arden Recreational Centre, we’d like to hear your views.

📢 Beaudesert Park – information from the Forward Group

Alderley Holdings Trust, Henley-in-Arden’s largest landowner and the organisation behind the Forward Group, has launched a website with more information about its proposals for Beaudesert Park, which forms part of HEN.1.

The website also includes an online survey inviting residents to share their views:

These are Alderley Holdings Trust’s proposals and consultation, so any questions about the project or the information published should be directed to them using the contact details provided on the website.

The JPC is sharing this so residents are aware of the information available and have the opportunity to provide feedback directly.

Please note that this survey is separate from the formal Regulation 19 consultation on the South Warwickshire Local Plan.

The Forward Group, on behalf of Alderley Holdings Trust, is exploring a new vision for Henley-in-Arden. Beaudesert Park starts with what matters most to local people: community facilities, green spaces, local jobs and improving everyday connections.
