Thank you to everyone in Herefordshire who has donated food, given money or given their time to Hereford Food Bank recently. Every tin, every pound and every hour helps us put together 7-day emergency food parcels for local people who need them.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL COMMUNITY

August has been another incredible month of support for Hereford Foodbank, and we want to take a moment to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated food, money, time and practical support.

Every donation, however big or small, helps us to support local people and families facing difficult times. We simply couldn’t do what we do without the generosity of our community.

A special thank you to Hereford Auto Services on Canal Road, who very kindly serviced our foodbank van completely free of charge. This generous support makes a real difference and helps us keep our van on the road and doing what it needs to do.

And a huge well done to the team at The Barrels for their fantastic Beer Festival, which raised an amazing Β£28,000 for local charities.

Our Manager, Helen, was absolutely thrilled to receive a cheque for Β£3,500 from the Mayor, Cat Hornsby, on behalf of Hereford Foodbank.
To everyone who has supported us throughout August, thank you. Whether you've donated a tin of food, made a financial donation, volunteered your time, organised a collection, raised money or simply shared our posts, you are helping to make a difference.

Every tin, packet and bottle you donate stays local, going straight to someone in Hereford and the surrounding area who needs it most.

Around 3 million people used a food bank across the UK last year. That need isn't distant, it's right here on our doorstep in Hereford.

Here's what's most needed right now:

Long-life (UHT) milk Tinned fish, meat and vegetables Pasta and rice Breakfast cereal Tinned fruit and puddings Tea, coffee and sugar Toiletries and hygiene products.

You can drop donations at any of our local collection points, or head to https://herefordfoodbank.co.uk/ to find your nearest one.

Want the full, up-to-date shopping list? Download the "Bank the Food" app.

Thank you for standing by your community, it genuinely makes a difference.

More than half of people on Universal Credit can't afford enough food. That's the reality behind why food banks like ours exist, and it's why Trussell is calling on the UK government to Guarantee Our Essentials: a legal minimum payment that can't be pushed below the cost of essentials like food, energy and water.

We see the impact of inadequate social security every Monday at our packing shift. Adding your voice to this campaign is one way to push for change beyond the food parcel.

Join our campaign for an Essentials Guarantee within Universal Credit, so we can ensure no one needs a food bank to survive.

Compared with the same period last year, the number of people needing emergency food support in Herefordshire has fallen by around 11%, and repeat referrals are down.

Behind every parcel is someone going through a hard time, but these figures suggest more local people are getting the right support at the right time to move beyond crisis.

Thank you to everyone who donates, volunteers and supports our work.

If you can help by donating food, essentials or funds this summer, it makes a direct difference to children in our own community who might otherwise go without.

Could you spare a Friday afternoon to help feed Hereford families?

Hereford Food Bank is looking for a regular volunteer driver for our Friday packing shift (1pm–3pm) β€” please note this replaces the Monday shift previously advertised. You'll use the food bank van to deliver emergency food parcels to people across Hereford and the surrounding areas, full training provided, no experience necessary.

You'll need a full, clean UK driving licence and a general willingness to commit on a regular basis (we've got reserve drivers to cover holidays and time off).

If you can give a couple of hours a week to make sure no one in our community goes without food, we'd love to hear from you.

We're looking for a Volunteer Team Leader to run our Monday afternoon packing shift (1pm–3pm) at Hereford Food Bank.

It's a hands-on role: reviewing incoming referrals, briefing the packing team, organising deliveries and collections, and making sure cleaning tasks get done. You'll manage a small team of volunteers, handle confidential information, and liaise with our call handlers and staff. Some lone working is involved too, as you'll be responsible for locking up at the start and end of the shift.

Full training is given, and you'll be joining a genuinely friendly bunch of volunteers who make a real difference to local families every week.
