Could technology help you or someone you care about live more independently at home?
Herefordshire Council and Wye Valley NHS Trust have launched a new campaign to show how Technology Enabled Care (TEC) can help people stay safe, independent and connected in their own homes
From supporting people after they leave hospital to helping manage long term health conditions, TEC can provide reassurance for families and carers, while giving people the confidence to continue living independently for longer. It can also help reduce unnecessary hospital stays and support a smoother return home, freeing up hospital beds for those who need them most

Council specialists are visiting community hospitals across Herefordshire to showcase the latest technology and explain how it can support patients, families and healthcare professionals

Could you change someone's life by opening your home?
Shared Lives is a unique form of care and support that matches adults who need help to live independently with approved carers who share their home, family and community life
As part of Shared Lives Week, we're inviting anyone interested in finding out more to drop into a special open event and hear first-hand from Shared Lives carers and the people they support
Shared Lives offers flexible opportunities, including long-term support, short breaks and day support, helping adults live fulfilling, independent lives while becoming part of a caring household and community

Shared Lives carers can earn around £600 per week per person supported, alongside ongoing training, support and tax benefits

34 years of caring celebrated at Windsor Castle
Herefordshire couple Sue and Pete Hanne have been honoured at a special reception hosted by the King and Queen at Windsor Castle, recognising their incredible 34 years as Shared Lives carers
Through Herefordshire Council’s Shared Lives service, they opened their home to adults with support needs, helping people build independence, confidence and a real sense of belonging. Two people they supported lived with them for more than 25 years, a true reflection of their dedication
As Sue and Pete retire this month, we thank them for the extraordinary difference they’ve made to so many lives
If you’ve ever considered becoming a Shared Lives carer, we’d love to hear from you. It’s a rewarding opportunity to support adults in a safe, family-based environment with full training and ongoing support provided

Two of our amazing Shared Lives carers from Herefordshire, who retire this month after 34 years’ helping adults and young people with support needs to enjoy a better quality of life, are being specially thanked by the King and Queen tomorrow (11 February). Sue and Pete Hanne have supported many different people through Herefordshire Council’s Shared Lives and along with our scheme co-ordinator Carol Condie have been invited to a special Royal Reception for carers at Windsor Castle. Congratulations and many thanks to them all – we are very lucky and proud to have you!
