LibDem motion achieves unanimous backing from County Councillors to improve water security by helping our farmers. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

🚜 A positive step forward for Herefordshire’s farmers!🚜

I’m delighted that my motion on Agricultural Water Security was unanimously adopted by Herefordshire Council on Friday, with excellent support from councillors across all political parties.

Following conversations with local farmers and the NFU, I brought this motion forward with the LibDem Group to help tackle some of the significant costs, delays and bureaucracy farmers face when trying to invest in reservoirs and other water-storage infrastructure.

The motion commits the Council to taking forward several practical measures, including:

Establishing an Agricultural Water Security Roundtable, bringing farmers, the NFU, regulators and Council officers together to identify practical solutions.

Exploring a clearer, simpler planning pathway for farm reservoirs, helping farmers navigate the process and identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs and delays.

It also seeks to ensure agricultural water security is considered in Herefordshire’s emerging Local Plan.

I’m particularly grateful to the NFU for its strong support and to colleagues from across the Council for backing this important initiative … very interesting to hear from Cllr Ivan Powell how important they are for our firefighters!

I’ll now be working with officers to ensure the recommendations are progressed as quickly as possible.

Our farmers put food on our tables. We need to do everything we reasonably can to help them secure the water they need to keep doing so.

Following the recent by-election on October 1st for a town councillor to represent Ledbury West, Dr Barry Hill, Liberal Democrats, was elected unopposed.

Barry Hill has lived in the Ledbury area for almost forty years. For the past twelve years he ran, with his wife, Woodlands Country Cat Hotel on Falcon Lane.

After recently retiring, Barry has moved into Ledbury town.

It took just 6 hours for the government to spend this year's Sustainable Farming Initiative leaving thousands of farms without key investment.

With money potentially available from Westminster will Herefordshire be left out (again)? ⬇️

The government’s promise of huge new spending on new social housing nationally could fail to benefit Herefordshire as the county is not set up for such investment, an opposition leader in the county has claimed.

We had a great time on Saturday in High Town talking to local people about their priorities for Herefordshire. And we heard from some visitors about how hard their LibDem MPs Lisa Smart - Liberal Democrats and Max Wilkinson have been working for their communities.
