The ceremony in the cathedral for hcafineart celebrated the achievements of more than 100 graduating students from across the College’s Schools of Visual Communication, Fine Art, and Materials & Design. The Lord-Lieutenant joined the academic procession and delivered a short address highlighting the importance of arts education, creativity, and the contribution that graduates make to the cultural and economic life of Herefordshire and beyond.

During the ceremony, Mr Edward Harley CBE congratulated each graduand individually as they crossed the stage, presenting commemorative pins alongside Abigail Appleton MBE, Principal of Hereford College of Arts.

And afterwards the students celebrated in the usual way.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire Mr Edward Harley CBE, Mrs Harley and Vice Lord-Lieutenant Nat Hone DL visited Headway Herefordshire and Herefordshire Growing Point on Tuesday 8th September, gaining valuable insight into the organisations’ work supporting individuals and communities across the county.

The visit included a tour of the Headway Centre, showcasing its art programme, workshop and garden facilities, followed by presentations outlining current services, future development aspirations, and the continued commitment to improving outcomes for those living with the effects of brain injury.

The Lord-Lieutenant extends sincere thanks to Steve Heptinstall, Amelia Carter, Jim Smith, and all staff, volunteers and participants for their warm welcome and for sharing their inspiring work. What a great local charity! Thabk you Herefordshire Headway

In June, the Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr Edward Harley CBE, presented The King’s Award for Voluntary Service to the Colwall Orchard Group in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the local community and environment. The presentation took place at Colwall Village Garden and Orchard on 26 June 2026, attended by volunteers, supporters, community representatives and invited guests.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest honour awarded to local voluntary groups in the UK and is regarded as the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations. The award recognises exceptional groups whose volunteers have made a significant and lasting impact within their communities.
During the ceremony, the Lord-Lieutenant presented the official certificate and crystal on behalf of His Majesty The King. The event celebrated the dedication of the Colwall Orchard Group’s volunteers, whose work has helped preserve traditional orchards, promote biodiversity, provide educational opportunities for young people, and create a valuable community resource enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

The programme included a presentation ceremony within the community orchard. Following the award presentation, the Lord-Lieutenant toured the orchard and allotments, meeting volunteers and observing many of the activities that take place throughout the year to maintain and enhance the site.

As part of the visit, Mr Harley was invited to plant a fruit tree to mark the occasion and was presented with a batik artwork depicting wildlife associated with the orchard, created by local artist Marie-Therese King.

Over the next few days, we’ll be looking back at some of the highlights from the official duties and engagements of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr Edward Harley CBE.

In April, the Lord-Lieutenant was delighted to present The King’s Award for Voluntary Service to Kington Walks at a special ceremony held at The Burton Hotel, Kington. The award is the highest recognition given to local voluntary groups across the United Kingdom and is regarded as the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations.

The presentation celebrated the remarkable contribution made by Kington Walks and its volunteers, whose dedication over many years has helped promote health and wellbeing, maintain and improve public rights of way, organise successful walking festivals, and showcase Kington as a premier walking destination.

During the ceremony, the Lord-Lieutenant presented the award crystal and certificate, signed by His Majesty The King.

Founded and run entirely by volunteers, Kington Walks has developed an extensive programme of activities that benefit people of all ages. Its annual walking festivals attract visitors from across the country, while its Walking for Health initiative provides regular opportunities for people to improve both their physical and mental wellbeing. The organisation's footpath maintenance volunteers also play a vital role in keeping local routes accessible and safe for residents and visitors.

'It was wonderful to hear the recent upbeat statement from His Majesty The King. His Majesty has been more active than ever this year and has found time to write to various Herefordshire residents on their achievements this year. Once again, a group of county residents attended the ‘Together at Christmas’ Carol Service at Westminster Abbey, hosted by HRH The Princess of Wales – this celebration will be viewable to all on Christmas Eve. I would like to wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2026

The Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr Edward Harley CBE, presented the first Elizabeth Emblem in Herefordshire at the Ambulance Hub in Hereford to the Dawn Daw in recognition of Jeremy Daw’s service and sacrifice as a Paramedic in 2021.

The Elizabeth Emblem is a national form of recognition conferred by the monarch and awarded to the next of kin of United Kingdom public servants who are killed in performance of their duty. It is named in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. It is the civilian equivalent of the Elizabeth Cross.
