As part of Armed Forces Week, Mayor of Hereford Cat Hornsey attended the Herefordshire Annual Flag Raising Ceremony for 2026 today.

Every year, special flag raising ceremonies take place in Hereford and across the county in market towns, to pay respects to all those who serve or have served in the armed forces.

The ceremony in High Town was attended by senior leaders and representations from all 3 Armed Forces’ services, alongside the military charities, and the veteran community.

Armed Forces week culminates in Armed Forces Day on the 27th June. Find our more or get involved here: https://www.armedforcesday.org.uk/

Mayor of Hereford Cat Hornsey attended the Three Counties Liberal Jewish Community (3CLJC) Shabbat Morning Service, commemorating the birthday of Anne Frank.

The service was led by Rabbi Anna Gerrard and included readings from “A Life That Might Not Have Been”, the autobiography of Holocaust survivor Eva Mendelsson.

The service was hosted at Saxon Hall, a venue with deep historical ties, where the community gather annually to honour the tree planted in memory of Anne Frank.

Mayor of Hereford Cat Hornsey attended the Blackfriars Rose Gardens party, to thank friends & volunteers for supporting the rose gardens, to view the young roses in bloom, and to be shown around the gardens & ruins by Anne Harbour.

The garden party was a brilliant chance to see most varieties of roses in bloom and to celebrate the progress made in reviving Blackfriars Rose Gardens over the past nine years. Thanks to volunteer's hard work, 3-foot weeds & even higher brambles are gone, replaced by beds of flourishing roses.

The New Shrubbery and Long Border have grown abundantly, providing colour and shelter for insects and wildlife year round. This hidden gem offers the residents of Hereford a place of tranquillity and relaxation, as well as a chance to admire the roses and ruins surrounding the gardens.

The Mayor of Hereford, Cat Hornsey, will be taking part in the St Peters Church Charity Abseil, to help raise money for the Firefighters Charity!

On Saturday 20th June, the Mayor of Hereford will be one of the team taking on this inclusive, adrenaline-pumping experience on St Peters Church. Last year raised £7,800 in donations, and this year the team at St Peters Church are looking to beat that total!

The money raised will support firefighters nationally through the Fire Fighters Charity. This fantastic organisation provides care and support to the UK’s fire family. It helps with any health and wellbeing challenges firefighters, control staff, and everyone working in – or retired from – the UK’s fire services, as well as their families, may face - during and after service.

To donate, or to learn more about the event, visit: https://www.justgiving.com/page/hereford-city-council-1?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL

If you want to watch and support those brave enough to take on the abseil, you can watch from below at St Peters Church on Saturday 20th June, all day from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
