Firefighters were deployed to Dunwich Heath, Suffolk to support ongoing firefighting operations.

This week, the Land Rover and a crew was also deployed to assist South Wales Fire and Rescue Service with protracted wildfire incidents across their Service area, including a significant wildfire near Blaenavon. 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

⚠️ We respectfully ask that you carefully reconsider all activities that may cause fire. The smallest spark can turn into a large and uncontrollable fire in a matter of seconds. πŸ‘‰ Please read our advice below:

❌ Don't have BBQs.
❌ Don't light bonfires.
❌ Don't drop ci******es, matches or smoking materials on the ground.
❌ Don't leave glass bottles or litter in open spaces.
❌ Don't leave mirrors or reflective objects where they could focus sunlight.
❌ Don't use fireworks.
❌ Don't park vehicles on dry grass. Hot exhausts and catalytic converters can start fires.
❌ Don't burn garden waste.
❌ Don't use machinery that creates sparks near dry grass, crops or vegetation.
❌ Don't continue working if equipment is overheating.
❌ Don't ignore damaged exhausts, bearings or brakes that could generate heat or sparks.
❌ Don't let cut grass, straw or debris build up around engines and moving parts.
❌ Don't refuel machinery while it's hot or running.
❌ Don't leave machinery unattended while operating.

In recent weeks we have attended a number of fire in the open incidents, working alongside other crews from Hereford & Worcester and also crews over the border. πŸš’πŸ”₯

We’d like to thank the farming community for assisting us during these incidents, from creating fire breaks with machinery to assisting us in providing extra water with bowsers, it certainly helps us to contain these incidents! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸšœπŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎπŸ”₯

Here’s some advice for farmers and members of our rural communities from DWFireRescue πŸšœπŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎπŸ”₯

🚜 Fire safety starts long before the first spark.

Hot, dry weather can increase the risk of fires on farms, but a little preparation can make a big difference.

Take a few minutes to check:
βœ”οΈ Your fire risk assessment is up to date.
βœ”οΈ Emergency access routes are clear.
βœ”οΈ Buildings are clearly signed.
βœ”οΈ You have a plan to evacuate livestock safely.
βœ”οΈ Everyone knows what to do if the worst happens.

If a fire breaks out:
πŸ“ž Call 999 immediately.
🧯 Only tackle a small fire if you're trained, have the right equipment and it's safe to do so.

Preparing today could make all the difference tomorrow. 🚜πŸ”₯

Tonight we were called to reports of a fire in the open near to Queenswood Country Park. It appeared that a disposable barbecue was left unattended.

Due to the recent dry weather, Herefordshire Wildlife Trust has warned visitors not to use the parks fixed BBQ’s at local country parks due to the increased wildfire risk - and so we advise against the use of disposable ones as well!

Please be responsible when out exploring the countryside, in these tinder dry conditions even the smallest of embers can ignite a fire! ⛺️ πŸͺ΅ πŸ”₯❌🚭

If you do notice a fire, please call 999 and keep away, wildfires can spread rapidly and unpredictably meaning escape routes in grassland and forestry can often be compromisedπŸ“±πŸ†˜
