❗️Sheering Mill Lane Unauthorised Works❗️

We're pleased to share that, following our efforts to secure urgent further action, an amended High Court injunction was granted and served this morning around 12:30am.

Police entered the site this morning and all those who had unauthorised access, left the site peacefully.

The High Court injunction meant that anyone found carrying out activities prohibited by the injunction – including bringing caravans on site and occupying the land for carrying out development – could be arrested by the police. No arrests were necessary.

We will continue to work closely with Herts Police and our other partners to monitor the site and prevent any further unauthorised works.

We would also like to recognise the strength of the local community response over the past few days. Residents have worked hard to make their concerns heard and we are grateful to everyone who has kept us and our partners informed and supported efforts to bring the unauthorised activity to an end 🙏

Anyone with concerns about further activity at the site should report these to the police by calling 101.

❗️Latest update re unauthorised work off Sheering Mill Lane❗️

Our priority is to prevent the site from being occupied and to bring the unauthorised development to an end as quickly as possible.

The next step is for the case to return to court, where a judge will consider whether the High Court injunction has been breached and, if contempt of court is proven, what further action should be taken.

A hearing has been scheduled for 15 September. However, as works are continuing on the site, the council and its partners are doing everything possible to secure an earlier court date.

If contempt of court is proven, a range of sanctions and enforcement measures may be available, including site clearance, vehicle impoundment, powers of arrest, fines and the seizure of assets.

We will provide a further update as soon as we know whether an earlier court date has been secured.

❗Important Update❗Sheering Mill Lane, Sawbridgeworth

The council is looking at a range of options, one of which is to secure a court injunction to prevent any further unauthorised development on land off Sheering Mill Lane in Sawbridgeworth.

The council had previously issued a Temporary Stop Notice requiring unauthorised activity on the site to cease. As activity has continued despite the notice, we are taking further legal action and applying to the court for an injunction.

An injuction is a legally binding court order preventing further unauthorised development on the site.

We understand the concerns of local residents and want to reassure the community that we will continue to use the powers available to us to respond.

⛅ Heading out for a Bank Holiday picnic this weekend? 🧺

By bagging up your rubbish and taking it back home with you, you can make sure as much as possible gets recycled. Aluminium cans and trays can be recycled over and over, so the more we can recycle the better for our environment.

📲 If you spot any full litter bins while you’re out, remember you can report these via the new-look East Herts Council app, or via the website, so that we can get them emptied and ready for use again.

Last chance to have your say 📣

There’s still time to have your say on our Statement of Licensing Policy, but the consultation closes at 9am on Tuesday 1 September.

The policy sets out how we make licensing decisions for premises that sell alcohol, provide entertainment, or serve hot food and drinks late at night.

Our current policy has worked well over the past five years and no changes are proposed as part of this review. However, we want to hear your views before a decision is made on whether to renew it.

Read the draft policy and complete the consultation survey before the deadline 👇️

⚡️Never bin your small electricals! ⚡️

🔥Batteries hidden in rechargeable electricals (like toothbrushes, vacuum cleaners and vapes for example) can put crews and residents at risk. 🔥

They can cause fires or explosions on your street when they’re crushed in the collection trucks, putting the people who handle your waste in direct danger.

Keep your small electricals and loose batteries out of your kerbside bins, and take them to your nearest recycling point instead: https://recycleyourelectricals.org.uk/

Thank you for helping to keep our crews and communities safe.
