Former Lioness and footballing legend Jill Scott is making her way home this week as part of her five-day, 388-mile "Coming Home Challenge" for Sport Relief.

The former England, Sunderland and Manchester City midfielder set off from Wembley Stadium on Monday and is aiming to reach Sunderland's Stadium of Light tomorrow (12 June), raising money for Comic Relief along the way.

Jill will complete the final 28-mile leg of the challenge, travelling from West Auckland before passing through East Rainton on her way to Sunderland.

Let's give Jill a proper North East welcome home! If you're able to, come along, line the route and cheer her on for the final stretch of her incredible 388-mile challenge.

Hetton Town Council recently installed three planters across the area and thanks to the fantastic efforts of pupils from Eppleton and Easington Lane Primary Schools, along with residents from East Rainton, they have now been brought to life.

We think they look fantastic and are a wonderful addition to our communities.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for their hard work, enthusiasm and support in helping to brighten up the area.

If you have green fingers, don't forget to enter our Garden and Yard Competition for your chance to win a £100 garden centre voucher!

Whether you're proud of your colourful flower beds, perfectly kept lawn, hanging baskets or creative outdoor space, we'd love to see your entry. 🌸🌿
