A magical moment in the Great Chamber, Fiona, one of our Castle Stewards, spotted rainbow reflections dancing across the painted ceiling, cast by sunlight on the inner moat. Right place, right time! 🌈

On this day in 1509, Henry VIII married his first wife Catherine of Aragon - Henry’s decision to marry her was one of his first acts as king.

Whilst still married to Catherine, Anne Boleyn fell pregnant with Henry's child and the couple wed in secret in 1533. Henry then passed the Act of Supremacy declaring that he was the head of the English church and appointed Thomas Cranmer as Archbishop of Canterbury who annulled Henry's marriage to Catherine.

Catherine was forced to leave the court and spent the rest of her life living in far reduced circumstances until her death.

🌸 June Highlights in the Gardens 🌿

Head Gardener Neil Miller describes June at Hever Castle as a riot of colour – and it’s easy to see why.

🌹 Over 5,000 roses are blooming across the Rose Garden and Italian Garden, filling the air with scent and painting the borders with pinks, reds and creamy whites.

🌺 The Italian Garden is alive with vibrant bedding plants, while Pergola Walk offers shady tranquillity with thriving ferns and flowering hostas.

💙 Blue Corner is a peaceful spot for calm and colour, and the Long Border is buzzing with pollinators among peonies, alliums and Jacob’s Ladder.

🌊 Don’t miss the giant leaves of the gunnera at Two Sisters, or the dramatic nostalgia roses by the Festival Theatre.

June is a truly magical time to visit the gardens – come and see them in full bloom.

Did you know that Hever Castle has its own rose?

The Hever Castle rose produces masses of velvety deep-red blooms which fade to cerise, offset by golden-yellow stamens. Growing to a height of 4-5ft, the blooms are complemented by attractive, glossy dark-green foliage.

The rose is located in Hever Castle’s Rose Garden which is also Head Gardener Neil Miller‘s favourite part of the garden!

Take a piece of the Capturing a Queen exhibition home with you.

Our exclusive merchandise collection has been inspired by the symbols, stories and artwork featured throughout the exhibition. Alongside the exhibition book, you'll find coasters, prints, postcards, magnets, keyrings, tote bags, notebooks and bookmarks, each drawing on Anne Boleyn's remarkable story.

The collection features Anne's falcon, her heraldic badge symbolising purity and steadfastness, acorn & honeysuckle a symbol used by Henry VIII & Anne as a personal love motif, and the Tudor Rose, emblem of the Tudor dynasty. These motifs are brought together in a repeating pattern inspired by the rich designs of Tudor tapestries.

Whether you choose a portrait of Anne or one of the symbolic designs, each piece offers a connection to the history, artistry and research behind Capturing a Queen.
