We couldn't let today go by without an ode to the wonderful human that was Dolly Parton. If there was anyone in the entire world who was as passionate about children's reading as us, it was Dolly.

If you don't already know, Dolly founded Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book gifting program that sends out free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income.

After launching in 1995, the program grew quickly. First books were only distributed to children living in Sevier County, Tennessee where Dolly grew up. By 2003, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library had gifted one million books. It would prove to be the first of many millions of books sent to children around the world.

After the United States, the program launched in Canada in 2006, followed by the United Kingdom in 2007, Australia in 2013 and the Republic of Ireland in 2019.

Thank you, Dolly, for the books, and for the music. Sleep tight.

Calling All Cyclists!

Do you know about the Haydon Hundred?

It's the annual Cycling Sportive that starts and ends at The Bridge: Library & Community Hub in Haydon Bridge. There are 3 routes, 60Km; 100Km and 140Km, so it suits all abilities. The 140Km route - The Skyrider - takes in 5 of the 6 highest roads in England so it's a challenge!

On the plant & produce stall at The Bridge today we have tomato plants and hardy garden plants. Keep on checking the stall as more plants become available. And don't forget the annual plant sale at the end of this month - raising funds for the gardening group who keep the village looking so lovely
