Exciting announcement!📣

Morning everyone, we are delighted and super excited to announce the first TOWN WIDE Scarecrow Competition is to be launched today!

The idea was originally created by the wonderful Priestlands Residents Group, with Gillian - a dedicated group member - and when we found out that it was to be no more we were sad...

So we have brought it back bigger and better than ever before...town-wide!

Simply create a scarecrow, give it a name, put it in your garden, business window or even outside your business from the 19th of July 2026 ready for judging in 29th & 30th of August.

Prizes and certificates will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners!
The lucky winners will be announced in September and get to keep the winners trophy for 1 year and hand it back for next years competition!

To take part - name your scarecrow and upload your photos to Hexham Wombles Annual Scarecrow Competition on Facebook or email your photos to [email protected]

Thankyou to Cllr Suzanne Fairless-Aitken - Happier Hexham, Suzanne Fairless-Aitken Hexham Town Council, Hexham Wombles, Hexham Flood Wardens, The Torch Flames for Sponsoring the competition

Hels Pattison is a UK Americana artist based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Blending traditional country soul with a raw contemporary edge, she has quickly become a standout voice in the North East.

Fresh from a UK tour celebrating the release of her debut EP, Hels has brought honest, heart-on-her-sleeve songwriting to stages across the country, cementing her reputation as a captivating live performer.

Released in 2025, Just What I Do captures far-reaching influences, from Mary Chapin Carpenter to Phoebe Bridgers. Throughout the EP, Hels’ candid storytelling remains the defining feature – a quality that translates seamlessly into her live shows.

Her single On the Horizon was praised by Shakk from BBC Introducing as “powerful, dramatic and honestly magnificent”. Meanwhile, NARC Magazine prescribed Merry-Go-Round as the “perfect piece to listen to while basking in the glow of the summer sun”.

Hels has sold out The Engine Room, opened This is South Tyneside Festival to 10,000 people, and performed in the legendary Glasshouse as part of the BBC Introducing series. She has also supported the likes of Toploader, Liam Fender, Burr Island, and The Often Herd.

Hels Pattison is building a growing national following while earning recognition as one of the North East’s most exciting emerging voices.
