NDAS is closed this bank holiday Monday 31st August and we will reopen from 9am on Tuesday 1st September.

If you or someone you know needs urgent help, please phone 999 and ask for the police ⚠️

You can also contact the freephone, 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247.

Our website will remain open for referrals from individuals and professions over the long weekend and these will be processed as soon as possible when we reopen.

We offer different support services depending on your situation, and we recognise that domestic abuse can affect anyone. Our services are open to people of all genders, backgrounds and ages.

We're incredibly grateful to the retail team at Tynedale Hospice at Home for their kindness and support of NDAS 💜

When we contacted the hospice seeking assistance for survivors of domestic abuse needing basic household items to help them start again, Duncan and the team were so supportive and keen to help.

Content note: this post details early warning signs of domestic abuse.

Domestic abuse doesn't always look the same. Warning signs aren't always obvious, and they may emerge as time goes on.

Here are some signs you may notice which could be an indication of abuse being present:

💔 Putting you down or telling you that you never do anything right
💔 Prevent you or making you feel bad about spending time away from them with other people like friends/family
💔 Controlling your finances, taking your money or taking advantage of your financial situation - like forcing you to take out a loan
💔 Intimidating, insulting, or shaming behaviours towards you, behind closed doors or in front of others
💔 Pressuring or forcing you to do things you don't want to
💔 Using children or pets to control you, or threatening to hurt or take them away

This list isn't exhaustive; there are many forms of domestic abuse.

Remember, no one deserves to experience domestic abuse. You can speak to our friendly, knowledgeable team for free, confidential advice.

We're looking for volunteers in the South-East and North areas of Northumberland 💫

We need dedicated volunteers to help with our group programmes:
💜 Freedom Programme
💜 Freedom Forever
💜 Recovery Toolkit

These programmes help people on their journey towards recovery and rebuilding their lives after domestic abuse.

We're currently looking for volunteers in these areas of Northumberland:
- Morpeth, Blyth, Ashington, Cramlington and surrounding areas
- Alnwick, Berwick and surrounding areas

We're looking for people who can commit to volunteering regularly and feel able to support people in what can sometimes be an emotionally challenging environment.
