Lane End Parish Council Meetings

What to Expect

• A welcoming and formal meeting open to all residents.
• Updates on Parish Council projects, services and local issues.

Public Participation Session A maximum of 15 minutes is set aside at the start of each meeting for residents to speak.

• Up to 3 minutes per speaker on agenda items.
• If several people wish to speak on the same topic, a spokesperson is encouraged.
• At the Chairman's discretion, brief comments on matters not included on the agenda may also be raised.

Lane End Parish Council Update – New Grit Bins for Winter ❄️

We’re pleased to let residents know that, after a long wait, Buckinghamshire Council has confirmed that our order for two new grit bins will be installed in time for the winter season.

At the request of residents, Lane End Parish Council has funded a new grit bin for the Wheeler End Scouts and Montessori Nursery. We hope this will support children, parents, staff, scouts, and local residents during icy weather. A second grit bin will be installed at the top of Pusey Way to assist households at that end of the parish.

A special thank you to Councillor Orsolya Hayday for her help throughout the process and for ensuring Buckinghamshire Council delivers ahead of the winter months.

Lane End Parish Council may be small, just 11 volunteer councillors and a Clerk, but together we’re working every week to make our parish better for everyone.

Our councillors give up hours, days, evenings and weekends to support the community. They do it because they care deeply about Lane End Parish and because they want to see our village thrive. It takes a special kind of person to keep going despite criticism from a small minority, staying focused on the bigger goal: improving our parish for all residents.

Not everyone will agree with every decision, and that’s okay, healthy discussion is part of local democracy. What matters is that we continue to work hard, listen, and deliver positive change.

Some of the projects we’ve been working on recently include:
A new extension at Lane End Sports Pavilion, now including a fully accessible disabled toilet.

A brand‑new children’s play area, already thriving and enjoyed by families across the parish.

The early stages of our pond restoration project, improving local nature and biodiversity.

Agreement to install six new defibrillators, bringing the total to 10 life‑saving units across the Parish.

And we’re exploring future ideas too:
A padle court to support health, wellbeing and community activity.

A skate park suitable for children, teens and adults — for skateboarding, biking, scooters and roller skating.

If these projects are right for our parish, we’ll work hard to deliver them. If not, we’ll rethink and explore other options. Every idea is considered carefully, with the community’s best interests at heart.

Lane End is fortunate to have a group of people willing to give up their time, energy and expertise for the benefit of the whole parish. Thank you to our councillors, and thank you to our residents for supporting the work we do.

🌿 Lane End Village Pond Restoration Project 🌿

Our village ponds have been at the heart of Lane End for well over a century. Over the years they have provided a place for recreation, from model boat racing and stickleback fishing to tug-of-war competitions, as well as supporting a wide variety of wildlife.

Unfortunately, like many ponds across the UK, they have gradually declined. The Countryside Survey found that around 80% of countryside ponds are in poor condition due to a lack of management, increased nutrient levels, and the build-up of silt and sludge, which reduce oxygen levels in the water. Smaller ponds like those in Lane End are particularly vulnerable, especially as changing weather patterns have led to lower water levels.

To help secure the future of this important village asset, the Parish Council has sought advice from specialist ecologists and aquatic environmental experts. Together they have developed a 12-month restoration project that will improve the health of our ponds, enhance biodiversity, and create an even more attractive space for residents to enjoy and connect with nature.

What to expect

The initial clearance and restoration work began in July 2026. During the first few months, the ponds may not look their best as essential management work is carried out. While this may seem disruptive, it is a vital part of the restoration process and will allow the ponds to recover and thrive for many years to come.

We appreciate your patience and support while this important project is underway. We look forward to sharing updates as the restoration progresses and to seeing our village ponds flourish once again.

Community Guidance on Using a Defibrillator (AED).

Following a request from a parishioner for guidance on using a defibrillator unit in an emergency, the Parish Council is sharing the brief overview below.

Please note:
AEDs are designed to talk you through the process step‑by‑step, and you should always follow the instructions of the 999 call handler.

This information is provided only as a general overview and must not be used instead of the guidance given by emergency services.

Defibrillator Locations in the Parish

There are currently four defibrillator (AED) units available in the village:

Edmonds Parade

Lane End Village Hall

Cadmore End Village Hall

Wheeler End Scout Hut

The Parish Council has agreed to install a further six defibrillator units across the Parish. These will be installed over the coming months, increasing coverage and making it easier for residents to access a defib quickly in an emergency.

Before assisting, make sure the area is safe. Do not put yourself in danger — your safety comes first.

Guidelines on How to Use a Defibrillator (AED)
(Overview only — always follow the instructions of the emergency services)

1. Check for response and breathing
If the person is unresponsive and not breathing normally, call 999 immediately and begin CPR.

2. Send someone to get the nearest AED
If you are alone, put 999 on speaker and fetch the unit yourself if possible.
The Ambulance Service will provide the cabinet access code.

3. Turn on the AED
Open the lid or press the power button.
The device will talk you through each step.
The Ambulance Service will stay on the phone — follow their instructions first.
The notes below are guidance only.

4. Expose the chest
Cut or remove clothing.
Dry the chest if wet.
Shave excessive hair only if a razor is provided and only if advised by the ambulance operator.

5. Apply the pads
Follow the diagrams on the pads:

One pad on the upper right chest

One pad on the lower left chest

6. Allow the AED to analyse
Do not touch the person while the AED checks their heart rhythm.

7. Deliver a shock if instructed
If the AED says “shock advised,” ensure no one is touching the patient, then press the flashing shock button.
If it says “no shock advised,” continue CPR.

8. Continue CPR
Follow the prompts from both the AED and the ambulance call handler.
The AED will tell you when to resume CPR and when it will re‑analyse.

9. Continue until help arrives
Do not stop unless the person shows clear signs of life or emergency services take over.

We hope this guidance helps and reassures parishioners that AEDs are simple, safe and designed for anyone to use in an emergency.

Lane End Parish Council is seeking to co-opt a new Parish Councillor and is inviting applications from residents who are passionate about their community and would like to help shape the future of the parish.

Being a Parish Councillor is a rewarding role that provides an opportunity to represent local residents, influence decisions affecting the parish, and contribute to projects and initiatives that enhance the local area.

Who can apply?

To be eligible, applicants must be:

At least 18 years of age; and
A British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland; and
Meet at least one of the following criteria:
Be registered as a local government elector for the parish; or
Have occupied land or premises within the parish during the previous 12 months; or
Have had their principal or only place of work within the parish during the previous 12 months; or
Have lived within the parish or within three miles of it during the previous 12 months.
What is involved?

Parish Councillors attend Council meetings, represent the interests of residents, help make decisions on local services and projects, and work collectively to improve the quality of life within the parish.
