Last weekend, our Mayor, Cllr Chris O'Rourke and Mayoress, Kathleen Meredith, had the honour of attending the Installation of The Right Worshipful Chris Harper as Mayor of Peterborough at the magnificent Peterborough Cathedral.

Mayor Chris Harper was officially installed by the Dean, The Very Reverend Chris Dalliston, in front of a congregation of hundreds. One minister remarked that he had never seen so many mayoral chains gathered in one place!

The service was made even more special by the outstanding cathedral choir, while prayers were led by the Mayor's Chaplain, Rev Michelle Dalliston, who served as Chaplain of Higham Ferrers during Cllr Chris' first Mayoral term 2019/20.

The Mayor and Mayoress were delighted to spend time with Mayor Chris Harper and Mayoress Rita Harper in the Mayor's Parlour and later in the cathedral, alongside Rev Michelle Dalliston.

A wonderful afternoon of civic tradition, fellowship and celebration was rounded off with refreshments and the opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues from across the region.

This Local Council Clerk Week (LCCW), we wanted to shine a spotlight on our Assistant Clerk, Emily Arrow, whose job it is to assist the Town Clerk in ensuring that the Town Council is correctly run according to Local Government regulations and legislation

Emily is a member of the Town Council Officers Management Team and she covers for all duties of the Town Clerk when they are absent from the office. Her responsibilities are varied, but she says one of her favourite parts of the role is; "Being part of such a close knit community. It is clear from my years in Higham Ferrers that there are lots dedicated people, many of them volunteers, working incredibly hard to bring a wide variety of events, amenities and services to the residents of the town, and make Higham such a wonderful place, and that's a lovely thing to be a part of."

This week is Local Council Clerk Week (LCCW) ✨ a dedicated week to celebrate and raise awareness of the work Clerks do for their communities ✨ Clerks are professional administrators who ensure that council decisions are implemented lawfully, manage council meetings, oversee finances and advise councillors on governance and statutory matters.

Alicia Schofield has been Higham Ferrers Town Clerk since 2022, she is the bridge between the Council Officers and the Council itself and during her time as Clerk she has enjoyed organising and running events for the town, such as the annual Christmas Sparkle and Remembrance Day Service and developing the Community Library and Wellbeing Hub. She says... "I'm proud to be part of the council and serving the Higham Ferrers community is an honour and a privilege."
