Lovely words from Hinckley PRIDE - well done to everyone who made it such a success 🌈👏🏼
Yesterday was never the Pride we planned.
But somehow, it became a Pride I don’t think any of us will ever forget. 🌈
Yesterday was evidence of what happens when a community shows up for itself. When plans fall apart, when circumstances are against you, when you have every reason to call it a day, but instead people come together, adapt and say, “We’re still here.” 🏳️⚧️💪🏳️🌈
And that is exactly what Hinckley did yesterday.
This isn’t a thank you to individuals, businesses, performers or organisations. Those thank yous will come, and there are many of them.
This is a thank you to a community.❤️❤️
To every person who walked through those doors. To everyone who made space for somebody else. To those who waited patiently, came and went, sang, danced, laughed, cheered and celebrated. To everyone who understood that yesterday wasn’t about recreating Pride in the Park. It was simply about making sure Pride still had a place.
On Friday we faced the heartbreaking decision to cancel something we had spent a year building.😢🫣
Less than 24 hours later, our community built something else.
Something smaller in size, perhaps, but certainly not in spirit.
Pride has never just been a stage, a park, a parade or a party. It is people. It is community. It is resilience. It is showing up for one another and refusing to disappear when things don’t go to plan.
Yesterday, Hinckley showed exactly what that means.
You can cancel an event.
You can change the plans.
You can move us out of the park.
But you cannot cancel Pride.
Because Pride lives wherever our community chooses to stand together.
And yesterday, Hinckley stood together as one! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️❤️
