The latest version of our Burbage Book Exchange is now ready.

Thank you to Kyle Foxon for donating the metal cupboard and Judy Kent for the donation of paint this has meant I was able to upcycle this new cupboard completely free.

The newest cupboard will purely be for adult books and the wooden cupboard will continue to be for children's books.
We will move the cupboards around once we are able to cut the bush down some more after bird nesting season is over in October.

The tiny top cupboard we have been donated doors by Timber Yard Direct.
I am just in the process of painting the door and will hopefully have this sorted by the weekend. Since it is joined to the children's book cupboard, this will become a toy exchange.

5 years and we are still going! Albeit the book cupboard has had a few changes since we first started but thank you to everyone who enjoys using our little free library. I still get excited seeing people looking through the cupboard.

The door of the adult section hasn't been replaced yet and won't be. I am currently upcycling a metal cupboard which will sit next to the current cupboard and will be filled with more adult books.

I won't be replacing the door on the little cupboard because I'd like to use this section as a new community exchange area. I'm considering what this may look like whether it is exchanging plants, fruit &veg or things like toys.... any suggestions feel free to post in the comments.

Please could whoever has taken the door off Burbage Book Exchange return it so it can be fixed. We knew it was loose and it was getting fixed this evening.
We've had the book exchange for 5 years and noones ever took the door when it's needed repairing before.

Disappointing that someone has taken it rather than leaving it somewhere for us to use.

Please when using the book cupboard leave the books tidy so that the doors can be shut properly. Also check you have shu...

Please when using the book cupboard leave the books tidy so that the doors can be shut properly. Also check you have shut the doors fully so they won't swing open.

I am so grateful for the support our little book exchange receives but please if the books do not fit in the cupboard consider taking them to one of the other little free libraries.

There is a new little free library on Hawthorn Cresent that need donations.

Alternatively, we are blessed with many charity shops in the area that would welcome the books.

Also our amazing Burbage Community Library take donations of books to help raise money at their book shop.

I feel this is a little bit of a moan, which I don't often do on here.

However, a few times recently the book cupboard doors have been left open due to books being crammed in. Today the grey box was out so books could have been placed in there temporarily.

Please help to take care of our little book cupboard. 📚

4 years of Burbage Book Exchange!

Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed using our little book cupboard and supported us through contributions of books, sharing our page and just engaging with our little book cupboard.

We set this up during one of the covid lockdowns as a way to have something positive during an uncertain time and help give the community something to enjoy.

We never thought it would be popular and we never thought so many people would make use of it.

I remember getting so excited when I saw someone use it for the first time and, although I'm a lot busier nowadays than back during lockdowns, it's still so lovely to catch sight of people looking in the cupboard.

I think in total I've still only spent about £20 on this project in 4 years mostly on yacht varnish. I think we are on our 3rd possibly 4th cupboard after others have whethered. Hopefully our latest upcycle lasts a while longer.

I've been working on stripping the paint off the stairs and have my headphones in.
These will be great for the book cupboard.

Thank you to everyone who has messaged offering donations of books.

The book cupboard is full and so we cannot take large donations of books at present.

Please do not leave books on our doorstep as we have nowhere to store these in the house. These will have to be taken to the library or to charity.
