We had such a lovely start to the week. Our first visit by the mobile library to Hingham. And what a great turnout! Lots of customers returning books and borrowing more, as well as one jigsaw! We had our first junior visitor as well. So many catch up conversations and joy that a library service was once again available in Hingham. Hingham staff will be on the van each week to welcome their customers and help if needed on Mondays 10-12. 🙂🙂🙂📔📒📕📗📘📙

If you are planning to use the mobile library coming to Hingham and wish to reserve books to the van this is what you will need to do. When making your reservation you will need to go to Pick up location and change location to Route Hingham Mobile. It is the last option under R. We are looking forward to meeting you at the mobile on Monday.

Update!! The mobile is coming to Hingham and the Hingham Library staff will be there to assist you with all your borrowing needs.

One of our Norfolk Mobile Library Service mobiles will be outside Hingham Library every Monday, 10am-12pm, from Monday 11 May. This is to provide a book selection for the town while the library is closed.

The mobile will park up on the tarmac parking area - we kindly ask if people could avoid parking in the blue marked area in front of the library on Monday mornings so we can accommodate the mobile.

Please accept our apologies for Hingham being closed. We will update on our social media pages with information and news when we have solid updates.

Hello to all our Hingham Library customers. An update for you , which I hope lets you know where NCC are with the required works to our much loved library. Please keep an eye out here and on the Norfolk Library and Information Service page. Jasmine, Ali and Kate look forward to being able to welcome you back to the Library.

Hingham Library has not been able to open for a while now. So we thought we’d provide a bit of an update…

A couple of months ago, we discovered possible structural issues with the building and - as always - safety first! We cleared the library of books and got the professionals in to take a closer look. Specialist external surveyors have been examining the library building to see what the problem is. This process has been pretty involved, including some digging under the building to look at the sub-structure. We wanted to be careful, so this was all done in such a way as to protect the building.

Here’s the bad news...

We are not able to reopen the library without significant strengthening of the structure taking place first. We have to put safety first - that’s your safety and the safety of our fab library staff.
We know this building is much-loved but it is getting on a bit. At eighty years old it has well exceeded the expected shelf-life, so we need to look at the options. That might include repair or refurbishment, both of which would need to be extensive. Things have moved on a bit in 80 years so any work would need to stick to modern standards - things like better heating, insulation, electrics and plumbing.

Once we have that all thought through, we can come back to you with more detail (please be patient, it’s not a small job!)

In the meantime, we are in contact with the Town Council to see if we can provide some library services locally. That might include re-routing the mobile library and finding a space for some of the social activities.

We are sorry that Hingham Library is still closed. If you reserved any books to Hingham they will be redirected to Watton Library. If you have not received an email or think your books should be now at Watton please call Watton Library on 01953 881671 Monday, Wednesday or Thursday 10-7 or Saturday 10-4 and we can give you an update. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Hello to all our Lego fans from Hingham Library. Are you missing our Thursday club? If yes and you are free 2pm-3pm tomorrow Saturday 7th March come to Watton Library and join in the fun with Kate and Ali. We would love to see you. Photos are from Lego Club when our theme was World Book Day.
