Our pump with crew of five were mobilised to a small mobility scooter on fire at a local park. On arrival crews discovered the scooter well alight. Our crew extinguished the fire and moved the scooter away from the nearby trees and bushes that luckily did not ignite in these hot and dry conditions. The scooter has been abandoned for some time and deliberately set on fire. Not only is this a needless act of arson but the risk of fire spread is these dry conditions could further risk damage to the park and nearby properties. Arson related incidents might delay the appliance from attending a more serious and genuine need for help in our community. The crew were detained only for a short while before returning home station.

Sophie has passed these and is now approved to ride on operational incidents. πŸ”₯ πŸš’πŸ’¨πŸ’¨

Over the next couple of years she will continue her development, building her operational skills and further knowledge to become a fully competent firefighter.

A fantastic achievement and a super addition to the team! Well done from all here at Holsworthy Fire Station.

This morning whilst on the way back from a school safety visit at Shebbear College, the crew were mobilised to an (AFA) residential fire alarm at a property in town. On arrival the property was lightly smoke logged, occupier not home and a strong smell of burning food.. 🍳
Our crew did find a smouldering pan of burnt food on the hob with it still switched on. We removed the pan and its contents from the property to extinguish outside and ventilated the flat using a PPV fan and checking with a gas monitor in order to leave the scene safe for the returning and very grateful occupant. There are no further details to add.
