What's On At Holsworthy Library - June 2026

Holsworthy Library

There are lots of exciting things happening at your local library. In addition to a great range of books you can use your library membership to access free eBooks and audiobooks via the Borrowbox app. We also have free public computers and Wi-Fi as well as printing, copying and scanning facilities. It is free to join the library, and we are a friendly, welcoming space open to all. Free hot drinks are available, and people are encouraged to use the library as a place to relax, work and socialise as well as to find their next great read!

For children, the library offers weekly Bounce and Rhyme sessions, a Saturday Club, craft activities and stories during the holidays as well as the popular Secret Book Quest and Libro’s Friends reading schemes.

We regularly host a Lloyds Community Banker, evening talks and other events so keep an eye out for posters or on our social media and website.

Holsworthy Library is part of Libraries Unlimited, a charity bringing ideas, imagination, creativity and knowledge to enrich lives and build thriving communities.

Holsworthy Community Champions 2026/27

A huge thank you to some truly amazing people in our community whose hard work and dedication often happen quietly behind the scenes.

Nathan Evans & Ian Parker
Two councillors’ partners who are always on hand to help at all of our events, often the first volunteers to arrive and the last to leave.

Debbie Florence
A familiar face at our coffee mornings, whether welcoming people on the door or helping serve refreshments. Debbie is also known for running her lucky bag stall, helping to raise money for charities.

Liz Buckingham
Nominated by one of our green-fingered councillors, Liz is always helping out in Badock Gardens, especially when preparing for events. She is also involved with the Chapel and the Men’s Shed.

Dave Bingham & Tracey Bingham
Over the last 12 months, while working closely with one of the Mayor’s charities, Holsworthy Football Club, it became clear just how much these two do behind the scenes. From gate duties and driving the team bus to cleaning changing rooms at the end of the night, they help keep the club running smoothly.

Amy Rogers
Amy is someone who works tirelessly behind the scenes. She has been Treasurer of Holsworthy Football Club for over 10 years, serves as First Team Secretary and is always there to support the club whenever needed.

Jeff Wyatt
Last, but certainly not least, many people will recognise Jeff from the Square, selling raffle tickets for the Lions Club during the summer and at Christmas, whatever the weather. It’s impossible to guess how many hours he has dedicated over the years.

Freeman of Holsworthy 2026/27

Holsworthy Town Council's nomination for the Freeman of Holsworthy Award for 2026/27 is someone you would have all seen around town on many special occasions. He joined the Holsworthy Army Cadets in 2001 and has been detachment commander for 12 years. He is currently looking after 35 cadets in Holsworthy detachment. I know for a fact many young people from the town have benefitted from this persons commitment over the last 25 years.

Jim Harvey was presented with a certificate and Freeman cup and said a few words of thanks.
‘’ I’m humbled, honoured and happy to receive this award. Community engagement and youth development is at the heart of Holsworthy Detachment. I remain committed to supporting local young people in being the best version of themselves using the fantastic opportunities on offer through membership of Devon Army Cadet Force.”
