On Saturday, Councillors from Holyhead Town Council travelled to Dún Laoghaire, Ireland, following an invitation to attend a special commemoration marking the 108th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Leinster in 1918.
During the visit, Councillors laid a wreath in remembrance of all those who lost their lives in this tragic event and paid their respects at the new memorial honouring the 570 victims.
Holyhead Town Council also joined its own commemorative service at the Cenotaph in Holyhead, ensuring that those who lost their lives were remembered in both communities.
We are honoured to share in this important act of remembrance, reflecting the longstanding connections between Holyhead and Dún Laoghaire. Our thoughts remain with all those who lost their lives, their families, and everyone affected by this tragedy.
Ddydd Sadwrn, teithiodd Cynghorwyr Cyngor Tref Caergybi i Dún Laoghaire, Iwerddon, yn dilyn gwahoddiad i gymryd rhan mewn seremoni goffáu arbennig i nodi 108 mlynedd ers suddo’r RMS Leinster ym 1918.
Yn ystod yr ymweliad, gosododd y Cynghorwyr dorch er cof am bawb a gollodd eu bywydau yn y digwyddiad trasig hwn, a thalu teyrnged wrth y gofeb newydd sy’n anrhydeddu’r 570 o ddioddefwyr.
Ymunodd Cyngor Tref Caergybi hefyd â’i wasanaeth coffa ei hun wrth y Gofeb Ryfel yng Nghaergybi, gan sicrhau bod y rhai a gollodd eu bywydau yn cael eu cofio yn y ddwy gymuned.
Mae’n anrhydedd i ni gymryd rhan yn yr achlysur pwysig hwn i gofio, sy’n adlewyrchu’r cysylltiadau hirsefydlog rhwng Caergybi a Dún Laoghaire. Mae ein meddyliau gyda phawb a gollodd eu bywydau, eu teuluoedd, a phawb yr effeithiwyd arnynt gan y drasiedi hon.
