19th & 20th September 2026
Llandudno Swimming Pool
Coaches Summary
Holywell Swimming Club enjoyed a phenomenal weekend of competition at the Swim Conwy Invitational Meet. Fielded against larger squads, Holywellβs 28-strong team delivered an extraordinary performance, amassing a colossal 102 medals
(42 Gold, 31 Silver, 29 Bronze) and securing 111 Personal Best (PB) times.
The team finished in a stellar 3rd place overall with 2,552 pointsβnarrowly missing 2nd place behind Bangor (2,564 points) and trailing the winners, City of Chester (3,074 points). This podium finish is an incredible testament to the efficiency and talent of the Holywell squad, particularly given that Chester and Bangor brought substantially larger teams of 49 and 35 swimmers respectively.
Beyond the statistics, the swimmers were an absolute credit to the club, displaying impeccable behaviour on poolside alongside immense focus and dedication in the water.
Distance Event Dominance
Holywell truly established itself as a powerhouse in the distance program, dominating the gruelling 1500m Freestyle, 800m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle, and Individual Medley (IM) events. The coaching staff expressed immense pride and full respect for the athletes who stepped up to tackle these challenging races.
Key distance highlights by age group included:
β Thomas & Patrick: Swept the board with golden trebles, both winning Golds in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m Freestyle events.
β Skye: Double distance champion, taking Golds in the 400m and 800m Freestyle.
β Charlie & Betsy: Secured spectacular Golds in the 400m Freestyle.
β Oliver: Clinched a hard-fought Gold in the demanding 400m Individual Medley.
β Bella & Ralph: Dominated their fields to capture Gold in the 800m Freestyle.
β Emily & Phoebe: Showed tremendous grit to claim podium spots, with Emily winning Bronze in the 400m Free and Phoebe capturing a superb Silver in the 1500m Free.
Sprint Success & Team Spirit
The momentum carried heavily into the sprint events, where the entire team produced outstanding performances. A massive wave of new Personal Best times quickly translated into a heavy haul of medals.
The atmosphere was elevated by the fantastic vocal support from the parents on the balcony and the team on the poolside. A special mention goes to coach Chris who attended with his son, our youngest swimmer Theo, and his little sister to passionately cheer the squad on from the stands.
