PING Charity

PING Charity Welcome to the PING Charity page. This page is to tell you about the clean drinking water projects we have in the Gambia and how you can help.

This is a grass roots charity - all of the money goes straight to those most in need - there is no middle man. The problem with a lot of large charities is that the money often filters from the top down and just how much reaches those most in need is debatable. With PING it is different. We work with local people in each of the villages who tell us exactly what is most needed, and we have built pr

ojects around these needs. Please take a look around the website and see for yourself how much difference your help could make.

This village is near Brikama, the engineers finished the job this week with the help of the villagers digging all the necessary trenches. It will provide water for the 500 compounds in the village, almost 2,000 people.

The currency exchange is very good at present and the solar panels are now higher capacity so we need fewer. This kept the price down and we completed the water system for 7,500stg. The villagers will build a fence around the equipment to protect it from animals.

Any support you can give will help us with the next village.

As an alternative to a normal Christmas we spent a week in Gambia checking our projects and catching up with those done in the last 2 years when, for medical reasons, we could not be there.
All were going well & hopefully with funding we can contunue to install village water systems.

Thanks to some great donations and our ongoing picture framing we have completed a water system in Bantanto village which is situated well inland, up the Gambian river.

There are more than 1,800 villagers and 89 compounds .This job was completed in 3 weeks and at a very economical cost of £5,500.00 Stg, and the village folk are very thankful. We will need further resources to create some economic activity in the village to ensure the maintenance of the water system can be ongoing.

The currency exchange of 85 dalasis to the £Stg is the best, from our point of view, that we have had for years. Unfortunately for Gambians it means cost of living has increased significantly in recent years. The efficiency of the solar panels has improved and their price has come down helping us to bring in the system at a very reasonable cost.

£5,500 for 1,800 villagers, £3 per person for a system which will last 15 to 20 years. A great bang for our buck!
