Another busy and successful month at RAF Odiham!

โœˆ๏ธ We welcomed an A400M to Station, showcasing continued integration and joint capability across Defence.

๐Ÿช– The Chinook Force worked closely alongside 16 Air Assault Brigade, strengthening interoperability and operational readiness.

๐ŸŒบ We supported the Op Telic memorial service with a flypast, honouring those who served and sacrificed.

๐Ÿ• Our Military Working Dogs and handlers continued essential training, maintaining the high standards required for operational support.

๐ŸŽฏ 18(B) Sqn deployed to Salisbury Plain Training Area for demanding field-based training, sharpening skills in a realistic environment.

๐ŸŽ‰ We celebrated 45 years of the Chinook at RAF Odiham with a commemorative dinner recognising the aircraftโ€™s enduring legacy and the people behind its success.

๐Ÿ‘ The month also included a range of important visits, presentations and awards, recognising excellence and commitment across the Whole Force.

๐Ÿš The Chinook Role Demo Team worked hard behind the scenes to prepare for the 2026 display season.

๐Ÿฅ‚ Chinook 45 Year Celebration Dinner ๐Ÿฅ‚

Last night, RAF Odiham marked 45 years of Chinook operations with a special celebratory dinner, bringing together personnel from across the Chinook Force.

The evening recognised the rich history, achievements, dedication and personal sacrifices made over the past four and a half decades by RAF Regulars, Reservists, Civilians, Contractors and Families who have all played a vital role in supporting Chinook operations.

Held inside one of the Stationโ€™s hangars, the event provided a fitting backdrop to celebrate the legacy of this iconic capability. Guests gathered outside during the evening to watch an impressive Chinook Role Demonstration, showcasing the skill and professionalism that continues to define the Force today.

The RAF Brize Norton Voluntary Band provided musical accompaniment during dinner, before celebrations continued into the night with live entertainment. It was an opportunity for colleagues, past and present, to come together and reflect on shared experiences and achievements.

A tribute from above: Op Telic memorial

On Friday, RAF Odiham was honoured to provide the flypast for the Op Telic 15-year memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, paying tribute to all who served in Iraq.

We remember those who lost their lives, stand alongside those who continue to live with the impact of their service, and recognise the sacrifices made by so many.

Moments like this bring us together to reflect, support one another, and ensure their service is never forgotten.

With clear skies offering a unique view, it was a privilege to support such a poignant occasion.

๐Ÿš Supporting Cyprus from the Air ๐Ÿš

1310 Flight, a Chinook detachment from 27 Sqn RAF Odiham, is located at RAF Akrotiri to meet Sovereign Base Area treaty requirements for aerial firefighting.

In July 2025, the Flight played a vital role in supporting Cypriot authorities during the islandโ€™s largest wildfires since 1974, operating intensively over two days to help contain the fires.

RAF Akrotiri is home to the Cyprus Operations Support Unit, delivering joint support to British Forces Cyprus and regional operations in defence of the UKโ€™s strategic interests.

๐Ÿ’ง Dip, Drop, Repeat ๐Ÿ’ง

RAF Chinook crews train to deliver precise aerial firefighting support at RAF Akrotiri using the Chinookโ€™s Bambi bucket capability.

โฌ‡ Dip - Collect water from the sea or inland sources.

๐Ÿ’ง Drop - Release water accurately over target areas to contain and control fire.

๐Ÿ”„ Repeat - Bucket empty, ready to reposition and go again.

Training like this ensures crews are ready to respond rapidly and effectively during wildfire season.
