First aid training is an integral component of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets progressive training syllabus, equipping our wonderful young people with invaluable skills that are quite literally lifesaving!

This is just one aspect of what the Air Cadets offer young people between the ages of 12-18 (cadets aged 12 must have started year 8 or equivalent)

The Met Office has issued a Red Extreme Heat Warning for Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures in some areas expected to climb to at least 39°C.

We want to remind you all of the importance of managing sunburn and heat illness risk, especially when enjoying RAFAC activities, but also as you go about daily and school life during this heatwave.

Cadets and parents/carers can be reassured that as our instructors deliver training or events they will continuously assess the conditions and welfare of those involved.

Please make sure you cover up, wear hats and use sunblock, and be vigilant for the signs of heat illness.

These include:

➡️Headache, dizziness and confusion
➡️Excessive sweating & pale, clammy skin
➡️Cramps in the arms, legs & stomach
➡️Loss of appetite or experiencing sickness or nausea

If you suspect you or someone you’re with might be suffering from heat illness:

🚨Stop the activity immediately
🚨Get the casualty into the shade
🚨Cool them down quickly by removing excess clothing and using wet towels, sheets, or a spray to cool them
🚨If they are conscious, give them water to sip.
🚨If they are unconscious, place them in the recovery position and call 999/112.
