We’d like to share this wonderful picture of Jacob Alberotanza (along with his mum and dad) presenting a cheque for £1000 pounds to the Great Ormand Street Children’s hospital.
The money has been donated from Hornsea Fire Stations charity funds to show appreciation for all the great work they do in caring for, and looking after children all over the country. Jacob is the son of one of our firefighters and has been on a challenging journey since birth so it’s great to see him happy and enjoying life to the fullest.
Jacob was born with stage four, four limb cerebral palsy. Over the last couple of months he has been travelling back and forth to Great Ormand Street children’s hospital to have treatment for kidney stones. See below for a little insight into his recent visits.
A Little About Jacob’s Journey
Written by Mark Alberotanza -Jacob’s dad.
A Story of Strength and Recovery
Jacob, my son, has recently faced an incredibly challenging period in his young life. Following a Proteus infection, he developed multiple kidney stones in both kidneys. The initial prognosis was worrying, with concerns that he might lose one of his kidneys.
However, after comprehensive nuclear testing at Great Ormond Street Hospital, the medical team decided on a treatment plan consisting of two invasive surgeries, followed by shockwave blasting to break down the remaining stones.
Over the months of November, December, January, and February, Jacob bravely underwent these procedures.
Thanks to the skilled care he received and his own remarkable resilience, Jacob is now steadily on the road to recovery. There is just one final round of shockwave treatment scheduled for the end of February, after which we look forward to seeing him continue to regain his strength and health.
On behalf of everyone at Hornsea Fire Station and the wider Humberside Fire and Rescue family, thank you for all you do 👍
