We’re looking forward to welcoming Tom McKinney and the BBC Radio 3 Breakfast team to Horsey Windpump on Wednesday, as they reach the midpoint of their week-long road trip along the coasts of Norfolk and Suffolk.

With classical music at its heart, Tom’s coastal adventure comes to the Norfolk Broads on Wednesday. At Horsey Windpump, he will meet one of the country’s last millwrights and discusses the origins of the Broads with the people whose livelihoods depend on them.

There is live music that is steeped in the stories of Norfolk and the sea, as Tom is joined by folk singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Olivia Chaney.

You can listen to the broadcast from 6.30am-9.30am on Wednesday 17th June, and the programme will be available on BBC Sounds.

A big thank you to our brilliant group of Norfolk National Trust volunteers who did a terrific job yesterday of trimming back the vegetation to maintain the full width of the accessible path to the viewpoint. We’re very grateful for their help and look forward to welcoming the volunteers back in a few weeks’ time. Thank you all! 🙏

A family of oystercatchers have found themselves a nice little spot for a nest, on top of a pile of gravel near the new electric pumping station. The contractors have fenced the area off so the oystercatcher and its young won’t be disturbed. From the vantage point of the windpump, we think there are three eggs, two of which have recently hatched. We’re looking forward to seeing more of the chicks as they grow, and will hopefully have some more pics of our new neighbours to share soon…

A Swallowtail on brambles yesterday. These magnificent butterflies, which are only found in a few places in the Norfolk Broads, were regular visitors to our wildlife garden throughout the day.
