Wildlife Discovery Sessions - Saturday 25th July

Looking for something fun and educational for the children this summer?

Join us for our Wildlife Discovery Sessions, specially designed for children aged 5-12 years. Spend an exciting hour exploring the farm and searching for the fascinating minibeasts that call it home.

Our team, along with The Friends of Chesworth Farm, will be on hand to help identify your discoveries and share interesting facts about the wonderful wildlife you find along the way.

Excellent news from the Farm recently. 🪶 💚

The pair of Kestrels have successfully managed to raise six chicks in the box at Riverside Field. The chicks have been ringed as part of the British Trust of Ornithology nest recording scheme and they were all very healthy.

We are looking for an Assistant Countryside Warden (Fixed Term Contract) to work across our Parks and Countryside estate, helping our warden team manage both urban and rural sites which are valuable for both wildlife and people.

This is a fun and varied role, that will include practical habitat and estate management, working with our small herd of livestock, biological recording and working with the public, volunteers and contractors.
As this role involves driving council vehicles, it is essential that you have a full UK and current driving licence.

Pathway Improvements at Chesworth Farm

We’ve recently improved the surfaced pathway between New Town Nine Acres and Gravel Pit, making it easier and more accessible for everyone to enjoy. The hope is even during the wettest of winters the path will still be above the ground water level.

This work was carried out with the fantastic help of Horsham Green Gym, whose volunteers gave their time and energy to help enhance this well‑used route. Thank you to everyone involved for supporting access to our countryside spaces.

🐮 Livestock Update 🐮

Please note the five British White cattle have been moved from Chambers Field into the public fields of Great Horsham Hill and Jenny Bare Legs.

Grazing the cattle on wildflower grassland plays a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity and preserving traditional landscapes. These hardy, native cattle are well-suited to low-intensity grazing, which helps control dominant grasses and prevents scrub from taking over, allowing a wider variety of wildflowers to thrive. This, in turn, supports pollinators like bees and butterflies, as well as birds and other wildlife that depend on diverse plant life.

Unlike intensive farming methods, this form of conservation grazing works with natural processes, improving soil health and sustaining ecosystems over time.
