Spital Crossroads update from Clatterbridge councillors
In April 2025, new software was installed at the junction and the traffic signals Wes reconfigured. There has been positive feedback following these changes and that arrangement will remain.
The next phase will involve renewing the existing traffic signal equipment and introducing new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing facilities. To accommodate these new crossings and ensure compliance with current design standards, some adjustments to traffic islands and the approach lane layouts will be required.
The above drawing shows the preferred design, which may be subject to change as part of the design stage process.
You may see site investigation works taking place in the coming weeks which will aid design engineers to identify the location of underground utilities prior to construction.
The current programme indicates that works will commence on site in July/August 2026. Delays are expected during these works, but contractors will do everything possible to minimise disruption.
